Chapter 83 A Call From Home

Quinn pressed the phone to her car, her voice weak. “Whatever it is, you can just say it on the phone?
“Come home and we’ll talk,” Victor said. “What, you don’t listen to me anymore?”
Quinn felt drained from head to toe. She simply did not have the energy to argue.
“Can I come tomorrow?” she asked.
“Tonight.” Victor replied. “You said you have a fever? Take some medicine and you’ll be fine. Since when did you become so delicate?”
The corner of Quinn’s lips curved faintly. “Alright,” she said. “I’ll come tonight.”
After she hung up, Lucy looked over at her. “Was that your mom or your dad? Are they asking you to come home?”
“My dad.” Quinn said. “He wants me to go back for a bit.”
Lucy frowned immediately.
“You literally told him you’re sick and he still expects you to go back tonight? What could possibly be so urgent?”
Quinn shook her head.
“I don’t know,” she said. “I guess I’ll find out when I get there tonight.”
Lucy felt a wave of sympathy.
“As parents, they’re supposed to treat their kids fairly,” she muttered. “Even if they adopted you, once they took you in they should care about you and look out for you.”
Quinn gave a small smile.
“Even biological parents can play favorites when there are two kids,” she said gently. “Don’t get upset. I’m doing pretty well right now, aren’t I?”
“That’s right. And things will only get better,” Lucy said quickly. “Quinn, the moment you divorce that useless jerk, I’m introducing you to some high quality men. Every single one of them will be a hundred times better than Chase.”
Quinn shook her head. “No thanks.”
“How can you say no?” Lucy protested anxiously. “After the divorce you need to show him how amazing your life is without him. It’ll drive him crazy.”
“I’m not interested,” Quinn said.
She paused, then added quietly, “Lucy, when I told you before that I wanted to find a boyfriend, I was lying.”

Lucy sighed softly. “I figured. Something bad happened and it left a mark on you. But Quinn, believe me, there are still plenty of men in this world who are worth loving.”
“I know there are a lot of good men out there,” Quinn said. “But that has nothing to do with me.”
She lowered her eyes. “Right now, I really can’t handle being around men.”
Lucy saw the redness in Quinn’s eyes and quickly patted her arm.
“Alright, alright. We won’t talk about it anymore,” she said gently. “Just rest. After your IV is done, I’ll take you somewhere good to eat.”
Quinn was truly exhausted. She closed her eyes. But no matter how hard she tried, sleep would not come.
Her mind was painfully clear.
Earlier, when she had gotten out of bed too quickly, she lost her balance and Julian caught her. His arms had carried a cool, faint scent.
At the time, all she felt was rejection.
Now that she thought about it again, her body still felt tense.
His large hand had landed on her waist. The heat of his palm had been unmistakable.
And then she had accidentally kissed his forehead.
Just imagining it made Quinn’s stomach churn again. She suddenly sat upright.
Lucy had been scrolling through her phone and jumped in surprise.
“Quinn, what’s wrong?”
Quinn took a deep breath and slowly let it out.
“I’m fine,” she said, shaking her head.
Why does this keep happening? Why do I keep ending up in situations like that with Julian?
Even if it had been an accident, she still could not accept it.
From now on, she truly did not want to see Julian again. Not even once.
But there was still the thank you gift she owed him.
If I had just refused him earlier today, none of this would be happening.
“Quinn?”
Lucy called her name again, concern clear in her voice.
Quinn snapped back to reality and looked at her.

“Lucy,” she said. “can you ask Julian for his measurements and send them to me later?”
Lucy secretly had her own hopes.
In her mind, her brother was the best man in the world.
First, he was handsome. Second, he was incredibly successful. Third, he had zero scandals.
Most importantly, Lucy was convinced that Julian liked Quinn.
If Quinn and Julian actually ended up together, their relationship would become even closer.
That would be perfect.
“Quinn, don’t you already have his contact?” Lucy asked.
“Can’t you just ask him for me?” Quinn replied.
Lucy shook her head immediately.
“You know how intimidated I am by him. I barely even text him,” she said. “Quinn, Seven isn’t going to bite you. Just ask him yourself. Don’t put me in that position.””
Quinn shook her head. “I’d rather not contact him.”
“Why not?” Lucy insisted, doing her best to promote Julian. “Seven might seem cold, but he’s actually a really kind person. And he’s never even dated anyone before. He’s practically innocent.”
Innocent?

Quinn immediately remembered that intense kiss.
It had been overwhelming. Almost aggressive.
Innocent? The way he looked at her made it seem like he wanted to tear her apart.
Lucy had taken quite a bit of spending money from her brother recently, so she continued persuading her.
“Quinn, if you just get to know him a little, you’ll see he has a lot of great qualities.”
“I’m not interested,” Quinn said directly. “I know he is great, and I understand what you’re trying to do. But Lucy, I can tell you honestly that I’m not going to fall for Julian.”
“He’s not my type.”
Lucy blinked in surprise.
“Seriously? If someone like Seven isn’t your type, then what kind of guy do you like?”
Quinn answered without hesitation, “I like someone gentle and refined. Someone calm, thoughtful, and soft spoken.”

She glanced at Lucy. “Does Julian sound like any of that?”
Lucy sighed in disappointment.
“Yeah… not really,” she admitted. “But you never told me that was your type before.”
