Ditched the Cheater, Pregnant by Mr. Righ novel Chapter 85

Chapter 85 A Promise Delayed

“Well…” Quinn began hesitantly.

Having someone take measurements in person meant standing close, very close.

The thought alone made her uneasy, and the reluctance on her face was impossible to hide.

Julian could see it clearly.

He knew pushing her right now would only make things worse.

“I can wait.,” he said calmly. “Whenever you feel comfortable, just let me know.”

He was giving her time.

And he believed that sooner or later, she would slowly return to a normal state of mind.

Suddenly, Quinn bowed deeply to him.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “About the clothes… I think we should forget it. Mr. Sterling, I know I broke my promise, and I really am sorry.”

Julian froze for a brief moment.

Then he raised a hand and removed his glasses.

Without the lenses softening his gaze, the sharp intensity in his eyes landed directly on Quinn,

shed

It felt as if something restrained inside him had suddenly been unleashed. The calm, polished composure

he usually carried slipped away, revealing the quiet power and authority underneath.

The intensity of his presence closed in on her, heavy and impossible to ignore.

Quinn instinctively took a step back.

Julian spoke slowly. “Backing out after giving your word doesn’t seem very fair, Quinn, does it?”

“I’m sorry…”

It was the only thing she could say.

Julian continued, “I already said I would give you time. I’m not rushing you. Whenever you’re ready, that’s fine. Isn’t that enough?”

For a man like him, speaking in such a patient, coaxing tone was probably something he had rarely done in his life.

Julian had been born with advantages most people could only dream about. On top of that, his own ability

and ambition had taken him even further.

He had always been someone surrounded by admiration and respect.

Chapter 85 A Promise Delayed

A man who lived at the top rarely had to consider anyone else’s thoughts or feelings.

And yet today he had lowered his gaze, softened his voice, and waited patiently, all because of a single promise from her.

A man like him was lowering himself in front of her.

Quinn simply did not know how to handle that. She struggled to find words. “But… I don’t know when I’l be ready.”

“I can wait.” Julian replied. “However long it takes, I’ll wait.”

If anyone else had heard him say those words, they probably would have thought they were hallucinating.

When had Julian ever sounded this humble?

Quinn did not feel flattered by it. Instead, a wave of pressure and unease settled over her.

Unable to hold back, she finally asked, “Why?”

Julian had no way of telling her the real reason. Not yet. The timing wasn’t right.

Her divorce still wasn’t finalized, and he had no intention of placing even more weight on her shoulders.

So he gave her the simplest answer he could.

“Because you’re Lucy’s friend.”

Quinn looked at him skeptically. “That’s the only reason?”

Julian nodded. “That’s the only reason.”

His tone was steady. His expression was calm. His gaze carried a quiet sincerity that made his words surprisingly convincing.

Quinn suddenly found herself unable to argue back.

And she no longer had the strength to refuse.

“Alright,” she said quietly. “When I’ve sorted out my situation, I’ll contact you. Mr. Sterling, goodbye.”

Before Julian could respond, she turned and hurried away.

The speed of her retreat made it look as if something dangerous were chasing her.

Her eagerness to escape left Julian both amused and helpless. Women usually flocked to him.

As Zeke Croft liked to joke, in the eyes of most women, Julian was like the last slice of pizza at a party, everyone wanted it before someone else grabbed it.

But Quinn reacted as if the mere sight of him made her want to run.

Was he really that frightening?

He had even put on those glasses today to appear less intimidating. Apparently that effort had been completely wasted.

Julian casually tossed the glasses to the bodyguard standing nearby, then stepped into his car.

He had no intention of going to see Lucy.

Meanwhile. Quinn arrived at the Lane estate. Elaine opened the door, smiling warmly.

“Quinn, you’re back? Perfect timing. Come in and have dinner with us.”

Quinn had not expected such enthusiasm from her.

For a brief moment, she felt disoriented, as if all the unpleasant things that had happened before had just been misunderstandings.

Her eyes reddened slightly. “Mom,” she said softly.

But the fragile warmth she imagined shattered the moment she stepped inside and saw Chase.

“Why are you standing there?” Elaine nudged her forward. “Go sit down. Chase has been waiting for you.”

Quinn stumbled slightly from the push.

Once she steadied herself, she immediately turned toward the door again.

Elaine grabbed her arm. “What’s wrong with you? Chase came all the way here. Stop being so stubborn.” Quinn looked straight at her and spoke coldly.

Π

“I already said I want a divorce. Are you pretending you didn’t hear me?”

“A divorce isn’t something you treat like a joke,” Elaine snapped. “You can’t just demand it whenever you feel like it. Chase is such a good husband. If you divorce him, what kind of man do you think you’ll find later?”

Quinn let out a soft laugh that carried no warmth.

“What exactly makes him so good? The emotional affair? Or the part where he tried to trade his own wife to gain favor?” She met Elaine’s eyes directly. “Mom, you’re a college professor. I shouldn’t have to explain basic morals to you.”

“Watch your mouth!” Victor strode over and pointed angrily at her. “Is that how you talk to your mother? Where are your manners?”

Quinn looked at both of them with a calm indifference.

“You raised me,” she said slowly. “So if I have no manners, wouldn’t that reflect on you?”

Elaine wiped at the corner of her eye as if holding back tears.

“Well, you weren’t born from my body after all. No wonder you’re nothing like us. Just look at Rosalie. She’s graceful, well educated, thoughtful. Now look at you. Something this embarrassing happens, and instead of keeping it quiet, you’re demanding a divorce,”

Victor nodded in agreement.

“Do you have no sense of discretion? Family scandals shouldn’t be broadcast to the whole world. What man doesn’t make mistakes? Chase made a bad decision. As long as he’s willing to correct it, that should be enough.”
