Chapter 87 A Carefully Played Game

“You’ve all lost your minds!” Rosalie’s voice rose sharply. “The moment Chase got together with Quinn, whatever I had with him was over. Two sisters marrying the same man? How could you even suggest something like that?”

“But this situation is different,” Elaine said. “Chase already told us that in the three years he and Quinn have been married, they’ve never even slept together. He’s sacrificed a lot for you. A man like that is hard to find. You never should have let him go back then.”

Rosalie had never truly thought much of Chase.

His family background was decent, sure, but Rosalie had always considered herself someone with higher standards. She had seen through him a long time ago. Chase lacked ambition, and she could already tell he was not the kind of man who would accomplish anything remarkable.

Everyone believed she had given him up and gone abroad for Quinn’s sake.

But Rosalie knew the truth better than anyone.

A

The only reason she had let Quinn marry him was because she did not want him.

If she had not gone overseas and dragged Quinn into the situation, she would never have had a perfect excuse to reject Chase without looking heartless.

Her plan had been simple from the beginning. Chase was easy to manipulate, which meant Quinn’s marriage would be miserable.

But letting herself be the one stuck with Chase?

That was out of the question.

Especially now that she had set her sights on Julian.

Compared to Julian, Chase was nothing.

Thinking about what Julian had told her, that he would come see her in a few days, and that he would probably confess his feelings when they met, Rosalie felt a rush of excitement.

Once she and Julian became a couple, Chase would not even be worthy of carrying her purse.

She took a steady breath and spoke firmly.

“Dad, Mom, that’s impossible. Quinn is my sister. I would never steal her husband. If someone has to suffer here, then let it be me. I could never do something like that. Please stop pressuring me.“

Even though she had no interest in Chase, she still needed to keep him on the hook and under her control.

There was no way she could fall out with him completely.

The more she said things like this, the more Chase would believe she was noble and selfless.

And just as expected, Chase immediately spoke up.

“Rosalie, don’t sacrifice yourself like that,” he said anxiously. “Quinn isn’t worth what you’re doing. If you

deserve.” marry me. I promise I’ll treat you well and love you the way you

No matter what they said, Rosalie refused to agree.

She even turned around and advised Chase to treat Quinn better and sincerely ask for her forgiveness.

“But she seems completely determined,” Chase said helplessly. “It feels like she won’t even give me a chance.”

Rosalie replied patiently, “Nothing is impossible for someone who’s determined. You haven’t even really tried yet, and you’re already talking about giving up?”

That was another reason she looked down on him.

A grown man who backed off the moment he ran into a problem. No courage. No backbone.

Tha; kind of man would never impress her. After hanging up the phone, Rosalie glanced at the messages. Julian had sent her.

He had been busy lately and had not chatted much.

Still, without fail, he sent her a good morning and good night message every single day.

For a man, especially a man as successful as Julian, that level of consistency was already rare.

Rosalie firmly believed that a woman should never appear too eager. In her opinion, being overly proactive lowered a woman’s value.

So she only replied when Julian messaged her first. She never initiated conversations with him.

In front of him, she carefully maintained the image of a gentle, considerate woman who respected his space and never clung to him.

Still, she had absolute confidence.

Once they were actually together, she would make sure he could never live without her.

Just as she was thinking about it, her phone buzzed.

She lowered her eyes and saw that the message was from Julian.

Julian sent a message, “I had planned to fly overseas to see you in the next few days, but something urgent came up at the company. I won’t be able to make the trip after all.”

When Rosalie read the message, disappointment crept into her chest.

But she had spent a long time building the image of being understanding and thoughtful. No matter how she felt, this was not the moment to act upset.

Rosalie replied, “I know you’ve been busy with work, and I completely understand. I was really looking

forward to seeing you, but I wouldn’t want you to delay your work because of me.”

Julian replied. “That’s exactly why I feel bad. I’ve been so busy lately that it feels like I’m neglecting you. I bought you a small gift and had it delivered to your university. You should receive it soon.”

Rosalie quickly replied, “I feel embarrassed accepting a gift from you. Why don’t you send me your address too? I’d like to buy you something as well”

Julian replied with a smiling emoji and then sent another message, “Don’t overthink it. To be honest, I make quite a bit of money. I hope that someday I’ll be able to buy every gift you could ever want.”

Rosalie felt her heart begin to race,

Any woman would be moved hearing something like that.

According to the media, Julian was a man who avoided women and lived an almost ascetic life.

And yet when he spoke to her, he was always gentle, attentive, and affectionate.

Just imagining that such a powerful and successful man treated her as someone special filled Rosalie with quiet pride.

Unfortunately, since Julian could not come after all, the confession she had been anticipating would have to wait.

Which meant she would have to keep Chase on the hook for a little longer.

Once she officially became Julian’s girlfriend, she would have no choice but to cut Chase off completely.

If Julian ever found out that she and Chase were still in frequent contact, any man would feel jealous.
