Chapter 89 A Place to Belong
A harsh wind swept down the street, whipping past Quinn as she stood there alone.
Fin, shed
Her fingers had gone numb from the cold, yet the chill spreading through her chest felt even worse than the winter air around her.
She should have known better than to expect anything from them.
And yet, somehow, they still found ways to disappoint her. Every single time.
Reputation mattered more. Keeping up appearances mattered more.
Her feelings, her happiness, none of it had ever really been important to them.
Of course. Why would anyone care whether she was happy or miserable?
Another gust of wind swept through the street. Quinn suddenly felt a sharp sting in her nose, and before she realized what was happening, tears had already begun to slide down her cheeks.
The world was enormous, yet at that moment she had no idea where she could go or who she could turn to for comfort.
A faint chill brushed across her face.
Quinn blinked and realized that snow had started to fall.
Large flakes drifted slowly through the air, glimmering under the streetlights as they danced down from the sky.
Only then did she realize she had been standing on that freezing street for who knew how long.
Her feet had gone numb. She could barely feel them anymore.
She lifted her hand, and a snowflake drifted down onto her palm, melting almost the moment it touched her skin.
The flakes that landed on her winter coat lingered a little longer, tiny and delicate against the dark fabric, Their pale reflections shimmered faintly in her eyes.
Quinn drew in a slow breath. The crisp scent of fresh snow filled her lungs, and for the first time that night, her mind began to settle.
The past was the past.
Once the divorce was finalized, her life could finally start over.
Even if she no longer had family, she still had friends.
Though most of the friends she once had had gradually drifted away, following Rosalie instead.
Now there was only Lucy.

And Adele, the elderly woman who had always treated her like a granddaughter.
Adele had always cared deeply about her. Ever since she learned how to use a smartphone, she would send Quinn voice messages every few days, asking whether she had eaten on time and inviting her to come
visit.
Quin tilted her head back and let the snowflakes land on her face.
The cold touched her skin, but the tightness in her chest slowly cased.
No matter how cold those people had treated her, somewhere in this world there was still a place warm enough for her to rest.
A faint smile appeared on her lips as snow continued to fall all around her.
Suddenly her phone started ringing.
She blinked, feeling the icy moisture on her eyelashes, and quickly pulled out her phone.
“Adele,” she answered.
It was Adele calling to tell her she had made pasta and wanted Quinn to come over for dinner.
Quinn spoke gently into the phone.
“Grandma, I really want to come, but I caught a bit of a cold. It’s nothing serious, but I’m worried I might pass it on to you. Can I come visit after I feel better? Please don’t worry about me. It really isn’t bad.”
She spent several minutes comforting the old woman and finally promised that she would visit as soon as she recovered.
Only then did Adele hang up.
Quinn smiled at the phone for a moment.
Then she slipped both hands into her pockets and started walking down the street, her steps noticeably lighter.
Those who did not love her were no longer worth loving.
There were so many people and things in the world that deserved her affection.
Why waste her emotions on people who only brought her pain?
Life might be filled with setbacks and hardships, but it also held moments of happiness and beauty.
When Quinn returned to Lucy’s apartment, she was surprised to see Veronica there.
“Veronica,” Quinn said quickly. “How did you find time to come by today?”
Veronica waved her over.

“Come here. I brought a bunch of good food.”
Lucy rushed toward Quinn and pressed a hand against her forehead.
“Oh wow, you’re still a little warm.” Lucy said. “Hold on, let’s check your temperature.”
Veronica stood up, poured a cup of hot water, and placed it into Quinn’s hands.

“You’re running a fever and you’re still wandering around outside?” she asked. “Did Gunnar give you any medication to take at home?”
Their genuine concern made Quinn’s eyes sting.
She lowered her head and took a sip of water, not wanting them to notice the redness in her eyes.
When she looked up again, she was smiling.
“I’m feeling much better,” she said. “And yes, I’ve been taking the medicine.”
Veronica pulled her down onto the couch.
“Good. Now let’s talk about the divorce.”
Lucy sat down across from them.
“Quinn, you know I follow a lot of online fan communities.” Lucy said. “I also know a few big influencers on social media. We were talking about it earlier. If it comes down to it, we could expose everything that happened and let those accounts spread the story. That way Chase would be under public pressure and have no choice but to agree to the divorce.”
Veronica nodded.
“I’ve thought about it too,” she said. “Since you don’t mind people knowing what happened, and Chase is shameless enough to drag this out, we might need to take stronger measures. Otherwise he’ll keep thinking you’re easy to bully.”
Quinn hesitated slightly..
Veronica noticed immediately.
“What’s holding you back?”
“I’m waiting for Chase’s father to give me an answer,” Quinn explained. “If the story goes public, the pressure won’t just fall on Chase himself. It’ll hit his family’s company first. His father has always treated me well, and I don’t want to drag him into this if I don’t have to.”
Veronica nodded in understanding.
“That makes sense. Let’s see how his father responds first. Then we can decide what to do.”
“Okay, Quinn said gratefully. “Veronica, thank you. You’ve put so much thought into this for
my
sake.”
Veronica smiled and waved it off, carefully avoiding any mention of Julian.

“You’re Lacy’s best friend,” she said. “That makes you like a little sister to me.”
Besides, she had already accepted Julian’s help.
Julian had invested hundreds of millions into her father’s company without even hesitating.
