Chapter 94 A Small Misunderstanding
Fmiched
Julian frowned slightly and looked at Quinn. “Is that really how it works? Quinn, do you think so too?”
Being suddenly put on the spot made Quinn’s heart skip a beat.
Veronica laughed softly. “Quinn, just say what you actually think. Don’t worry about hurting his feelings.
Quinn hesitated for a moment before answering, choosing her words carefully. “Twenty eight isn’t old. I’d say that’s a man’s prime.”
The moment the words left her mouth, Julian’s expression turned noticeably darker.
Veronica tried to hold it in, but she couldn’t. A laugh burst out of her before she could stop it, and the more she tried to calm down, the funnier it seemed.
Julian shot her an annoyed look. “Keep your eyes on the road.”
Quinn hadn’t meant anything strange by what she said.
Back in school she had skipped several grades, so she started college when she was only sixteen.
Even though she had already been out of school for a few years, she was still just twenty three.
In her mind, she was already fairly mature, so twenty eight didn’t feel that much older.
The real issue was the impression Julian gave people. He carried himself with a calm, steady confidence that made him seem far more mature.
Standing next to Lucy, he didn’t even feel like someone from the same generation.
If anything, he felt closer to an older mentor.
Of course Quinn couldn’t say that out loud, so she picked what seemed like a safe description.
Prime of life sounds perfectly reasonable… doesn’t it?
Why is Veronica laughing so hard?
Hearing the irritation in Julian’s voice, Veronica finally forced herself to stop.
Luckily the café wasn’t far away. She pulled the car into a parking space and shut off the engine.
“Alright, alright,” she said, still smiling. “It was just a joke. Don’t look so serious. Quinn clearly didn’t mean anything by it, right Quinn?”
The moment Quinn heard that, she realized Julian might actually be upset because of her comment.
Panic crept into her voice.
“I didn’t mean you were old.”

That explanation only made things worse, Julian opened the door and stepped out of the car without another word.
There were no bodyguards around today, and the quiet parking lot felt unusually open.
Quinn hurried after him. “Mr. Sterling…”
Julian stopped beside the car and calmly fastened the buttons of his suit jacket.
“It’s fine.” he said evenly. “I am a few years older than you. What you said isn’t wrong.”
His voice sounded calm, but there was a faint heaviness underneath it.
Quinn felt a wave of guilt.
“I really didn’t mean anything like that. You’re successful and accomplished at such a young age…”
Julian lifted his eyes and looked at her.
It had snowed all night, leaving the whole city bright and white in the morning light. The streets had already been plowed, but snow still clung to the trees and piled along the sidewalks.
Julian stood a few steps away in his black coat, the sunlight behind him catching the snow at his back and outlining his tall frame.
When he looked at her, his eyes glinted in the winter light.
Quinn suddenly felt her cheeks warm and quickly lowered her gaze.
Julian spoke again, this time with a hint of amusement returning to his voice.
“I see,” he said. “Thanks for the compliment, Quinn.”
Veronica had watched the entire exchange from a few steps away.
She clicked her tongue quietly.
Veronica watched the whole exchange and quietly clicked her tongue. Quinn clearly wasn’t a match for Julian.
Sure, he had never dated anyone before and had spent years single, but when it came to dealing with Quinn, he seemed completely in control.
On second thought, maybe calling him old earlier hadn’t been the smartest move.
But when it came to dealing with Quinn, he clearly knew exactly what he was doing.
Meanwhile Quinn had no defense at all.
Veronica had a feeling that once Quinn finalized her divorce, news about these two wouldn’t take long to follow.
Quinn was still trying to process everything when Julian spoke again.

“Don’t forget to contact me when you want to see the collection. I’ll have someone arrange it. I have a meeting now, so I’ll head out.”
He glanced at Quinn one more time before turning away.
His tall figure moved steadily across the snow covered pavement, broad shoulders outlined against the bright winter light.
Even from behind, he had the kind of presence that made people look twice.
“My cousin is handsome, isn’t he?” Veronica said casually.
Quinn quickly looked away and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
Veronica smiled knowingly. “And yet he’s twenty eight and has never been in a relationship. Don’t you think that’s a little tragic?”
Quinn thought about it for a second before answering.
“I wouldn’t call it tragic. Everyone’s life moves at a different pace. With his background and everything he’s achieved, if he wanted to date someone, I’m sure he’d have plenty of options.”
“Exactly.” Veronica said. “His standards are ridiculously high. If he doesn’t meet someone he truly likes, he’d rather stay single than settle.”
Quinn nodded lightly. “That makes sense.
Veronica didn’t push the topic any
further.
They parked the car and walked together toward the café.
They had arrived early, so the place was still quiet.
About ten minutes later, the person they were waiting for finally appeared.
After everyone was introduced and seated, Veronica got straight to the point.
“Mr. Whitman really liked Quinn’s design portfolio,” she said. “That’s why he wanted to meet today. If you have any ideas about the jewelry design, feel free to talk them through with her.”
Harold Whitman looked to be in his early fifties, though he carried himself so well he seemed closer to forty.
He must have been quite handsome when he was younger. Now there was an added sense of maturity and confidence that only came with age.
Quinn leaned forward slightly and asked politely, “Mr. Whitman, does your wife usually prefer any particular styles of jewelry?”
Harold smiled warmly.
“I know the brands she likes, and I’ve already bought most of their classic pieces for her over the years. But
