Chapter 77

RYDER’s pov

Jasper’s men fought long and hard.

At some point I figured out their game plan. They were holding on, till the moon was at its apex and our pack couldn’t but shift.

“We have to finish these men as soon as possible!” I yelled to my Beta, who fought valiantly at my side. “If we let them us out here any much longer, the moon will reach its apex, and we will be forced to shift!”

“We can’t let that happen! We’ll be vulnerable” My Beta responded, immediately catching on.

“Exactly!” I roared, and caught one of the rogues that came at me with all of his speed and strength. V/grabbed him by his neck and using my wolf hand, I scratched him across his chest, tossing him across the field when he let out a loud cry.

Many of Jasper’s men fell that night, and when the few others saw it, they grew afraid and began to retreat.

“We can’t keep going, he’ll kill us all.” One of the younger rogues cried, his eyes bright with actual fear.

“You’re right, and Jasper isn’t worth all of this.” The older one said, and glared at me from across the field, before turning the rest of his warriors, “Retreat! Retreat!”

A few of them were hesitant to retreat. I don’t know what Jasper might have promised them, but some of them must have considered it worth their while.

But eventually they retreated when they saw the others were no longer willing to fight.

“We have some injured men.” Beta said to me, and I turned to see some of my troops bleeding on the ground.

“The stronger uninjured troops will need to carry the others back. Amelia is alone, and I need to get back as soon as possible.” I told Beta and he nodded quickly in understanding.

“Hurry along then. I have a bad feeling about this fight tonight. I can’t help but feel like it’s a set up or something.”

Amelia had had a bad feeling earlier as well.

“I’ll go

now.” I said, and without another words, I rushed back to the pack house.

I quickly washed up in the training room, so that I didn’t have to enter our room all bloody and raggedy.

I don’t think Amelia would have liked that.

And once I was done, I made haste to our room.

My first sense of something being wrong was when I saw our bedroom door open, and the lights on.

“That’s odd.” I said and entered the room. As soon as I did, the sight of Amelia on the ground, bleeding, nearly brought me to my knees. “Amelia, No!”

I rushed to her side, and my vision swirled when I saw all of the stab marks on her body. “What the- Amelia? Baby?”

I gently cradled her head in my hands, and fought again the nausea that threatened to bubble up.

I quickly checked her nose to see if she was still breathing. She was, but her breathing was very shallow and she wasn’t healing fast enough.

“Stay with me, okay? Please don’t leave me.”

I gently laid her back down, and checked on Noah, but to my greatest surprise he wasn’t in his crib.

“It can’t be!” I whispered as rage and fear had me balling my hands into fists.

Someone had actually hurt Amelia and taken my son!

I needed to find my son, but first, Amelia needed help.

I crouched down in front of her, and ran a hand across her hair.

“I’ll be right back, baby. Just give me a moment.” I rose and fled the room in search of the healer. He would be able to save Amelia from dying.

I barged on his door several times before he opened the door, his glasses askew.

“Alpha, is everything okay?”

“Amelia…” I panted, and grabbed his hand, “come quick, Amelia…she’s dying.”

“Oh my!” He cried and fixed his glasses before rushing back to my room with me.

“What the hell happened here?” He cried in alarm when he reached my room and saw all the blood.

“She got daggered, multiple times. Please…save her.”

“Of course. I will, Alpha, don’t you worry.”

I stayed with him, while he cleaned up Amelia’s wounds, and added balms to her injuries. He injected her with several serums, and helped her drink an antidote of some poison he detected in her system.

“She’s out of danger right now. But she might be unconscious for a while. At least, until she regains all of her strength.”

I looked at Amelia sleeping peacefully in bed and slowly nodded.

“Can I give you something for your shock, Alpha?” But I quickly shook my head..

rooms away.”

“Whoever did this, also took my son. I don’t want anything to make me calm, because I have to find him.”

“Yes, of course.” the healer said and looked sympathetic, “Well, in the meantime, if you need me, I’m only a few

“Thank you.” I walked him out of the room and left to go assemble some trusted warrior to help me find Noah. “I know it’s a full moon. But you have to find him. Use your keen senses tonight.” I ordered, using the tone of the ruthless

my son. Alpha, even while my heart was absolutely breaking, “And don’t come back till you’ve found

“Yes, Alpha.” The men said and bowed before they went out to find him.

I would have gone out with them, but all of this happened because I left Amelia alone in the first place. I couldn’t spend another moment away from her, so I went back to the room and stayed by her side until she recovered.

It took days before Amelia made a full recovery.

I was sitting close to the bed, reading a book when she began to stir.

“Amelia?” I rushed to her side, and held a hand. “Baby, I’m right here. Please wake up.’

Her eyes slowly opened, but she looked so disoriented.
