After Joyce gave birth to the only son in the Lawler family, she was brought back to the Lawler residence. The staff all respectfully called her the second mistress.
Evelyn gave a faint hum and stepped into the living room, only to see her mother, Rhonda, wearing drab clothes and cleaning up. Compared to Joyce's glamorous appearance, Rhonda looked like a maid.
"Mom!" Evelyn rushed over, snatched the rag from Rhonda's hand, and asked angrily, "What are you doing?"
"I'm cleaning. The maid took the day off."
"If she took the day off, just wait until tomorrow." Evelyn helped Rhonda sit down. "Mom, how are you? Where does it hurt? Did you go to the doctor? What did the doctor say?"
Rhonda smiled. "Why do you have so many questions? I just felt a bit dizzy when I woke up, it's nothing serious."
Seeing that her mother's complexion was okay, Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief.
"Ma'am, dinner is ready."
By the time Evelyn helped Rhonda into the dining room, a lavish dinner was already set on the table.
Warren was also there. Evelyn respectfully greeted him.
Seeing only Evelyn return, Warren looked displeased. "Next time you come back, bring Xavier with you. A family should spend more time together."
Evelyn obediently agreed, and Warren's expression softened a bit. "Let's eat."
"Eat more, Evelyn. I had the kitchen make a lot of your favorite dishes today." Joyce enthusiastically hosted Evelyn, acting as if she were the true matriarch of the Lawler family.
