As the voice rang out, a clean-cut, polite-looking young man sat down next to her.
Evelyn recognized him. He was one of the ten guys Felicity had called into the private room earlier.
"I don't need any company, thanks."
"I'm not here to sell you anything. I'm off the clock. I was just walking by and noticed a gorgeous lady looking upset, so I came over to check on you. As one of the co-owners of the Starlight Lounge, making sure the guests are happy is part of my job."
Evelyn was slightly surprised. "You're one of the owners? Then why were you..."
The young man offered, "Why was I in the private room serving guests, right?"
He smiled. "I'll let you in on a secret. I was just posing as a VIP host to sneak in and see how the staff treats everyone. What if someone was slacking off and my little business went bankrupt overnight?"
Evelyn couldn't help but smile. "You're very thorough."
"There's that smile. You look stunning when you smile." He complimented her and extended his hand. "Hi, I'm Julian Hewitt. It's a pleasure to meet someone as beautiful as you."
Evelyn paused for a moment before shaking his hand. "Hello, I'm Evelyn Lawler."
"Hi, Evelyn."
Julian said her name with sweet politeness.
Evelyn had a naturally aloof personality. It was usually hard for her to strike up an enthusiastic conversation with a stranger, but Julian was exceptionally good at talking. He didn't pry into why she was upset. Instead, he talked about the fun things he encountered at work.
The club was full of all walks of life, and with so much happening every day, Julian proved to be an excellent storyteller, bringing every anecdote to life. He even praised her manicure.
When he found out she had painted the designs herself, he didn't hold back his compliments.
It was such an ordinary thing—anyone with a bit of artistic skill could do it—but the way Julian talked, it sounded like she had accomplished something extraordinary. It made her feel truly special. This kind of validation and praise was something she had never once received from Xavier.
