Xavier turned his head away and said impatiently, "If you're done acting out, head back to the Briarwood Villa. If Grandpa hears about this, he'll just go after Vickie again."

So it was all for Vickie.

Of course. If it weren't for her, why would Xavier ever initiate telling her to go home?

After three years of marriage, over a thousand days and nights together, shouldn't she have accepted this reality by now?

Just then, her cab pulled up to the curb.

Evelyn walked over. After sliding into the backseat, she couldn't resist looking at him one last time. "Whether you believe me or not, the only thing I've ever wanted was you. You can refuse to love me, and you can show complete disdain for me and my family, but you have no right to trample on my love."

With that, she slammed the door shut and refused to look his way again.

Watching the car drive off, Xavier's eyebrows knitted together in a tight frown.

"Man, you totally nailed that," Declan commented, walking up. "Too bad you didn't keep the momentum going. If you'd been just a little more ruthless, she probably would have divorced you right on the spot out of sheer anger. Then you'd never have to deal with her again."

Xavier's frown deepened. He found Declan's comment incredibly grating. He shot him a lethal glare. "Want me to record that and send it to Grandpa?"

Declan practically dropped to his knees. "I was wrong! Please, have mercy. If Mr. Farrell hears I said that, he'll literally beat my brains out."

Xavier scoffed coldly. "I don't think your brains are worth keeping anyway."

Declan shrank back, sealing his lips shut.

But inwardly, he was burning with curiosity.

What exactly had ruined Xavier's mood? Was he annoyed that Evelyn tracked him? Or was he mad because Declan suggested she might actually ask for a divorce?
