Evelyn decided to pretend she hadn't seen her, but Vickie stomped right over, practically vibrating with hostility. "You knew yesterday was my birthday, and you still hijacked him! What kind of sick game are you playing?"
Evelyn let out a dry laugh. "He's my husband."
"So what? If you hadn't killed my sister, you'd never be Mrs. Farrell!"
"Maybe not," Evelyn said coolly. "But neither would you."
That hit a nerve. Fury erupted across Vickie's face, and she raised her hand to slap her.
Evelyn effortlessly caught her wrist, her expression utterly bored. "Watch your image, Ms. Fulton. Your sister was a fragile, pure angel. Acting like a rabid dog doesn't suit the look you're going for. If Xavier sees you like this, he might just replace you."
She shoved Vickie's hand away, noting she was still glaring venomously.
"Keep your starlet on a leash," Evelyn warned the assistant nearby. "If a paparazzi snaps her getting violent in public, that's going to be a PR nightmare for you both, isn't it?"
"Evelyn Lawler!"
Vickie lunged forward, ready to brawl, but her assistant grabbed her tight. "Vickie, don't do this! If you get caught fighting, it'll ruin your career! Didn't you say Mr. Farrell loves seeing you shine in the spotlight?"
That made Vickie freeze. The assistant sighed in relief, only to flinch at the venomous tone that followed. "You're wrong. That's not what he cares about the most."
The assistant instinctively glanced up, her stomach dropping at the pure malice swimming in Vickie's eyes.
Running into Vickie had ruined Evelyn's mood for shopping, so she went straight to her design studio to dive into work.
By mid-afternoon, her office door was violently shoved open.
