Estelle went to spend some time with Old Mr. Jarvis.
The grandfather and granddaughter sat on a quiet veranda, watching the guests at the banquet laugh and mingle.
"Are you happy?" Old Mr. Jarvis asked with a smile.
Estelle turned to him and nodded seriously. "Very happy."
This happiness was a gift from Jonathan, from her grandfather, and from her brother. Today's wedding filled her not just with emotion, but with immense gratitude.
So many people had gone to great lengths to make her happy, meticulously planning every single detail.
Old Mr. Jarvis nodded, pleased. "As long as you're happy."
"I saw Georgia today," Estelle said. "We talked for a while. She asked me in detail about how I met Evelyn."
"So, Georgia does care whether Evelyn is her daughter or not," Old Mr. Jarvis said softly.
She must be conflicted, torn between the hope of finding her daughter and the need to remain calm and not get her hopes up.
"Did Georgia meet Evelyn?"
"She did," Old Mr. Jarvis said with a slight frown. "That Evelyn girl is a bit of a schemer. Georgia didn't like her very much."
"What do you mean?" Estelle asked, confused.
"Don't worry about it," Old Mr. Jarvis said, patting her hand gently. "Today is your wedding day. All you need to do is be happy. As for Georgia and Evelyn, it's too early to say anything. We'll wait until after the paternity test settles things. The real problems will surface then, and we'll figure out how to solve them."
Estelle nodded thoughtfully. "I understand."
She leaned against Old Mr. Jarvis's shoulder, looking up at the fireworks in the sky. "Grandpa," she murmured, "before the wedding, I saw some videos where the bride cries when she says goodbye to her family after the reception. I feel so lucky that you and my brother stayed with me until the end, so I didn't have to go through that today."
She wasn't sure if she would have cried, but it would have been heartbreaking.
Estelle remembered and nodded in understanding. "Then I'll go back the day after tomorrow."
"Don't forget what you have to do tomorrow morning," Old Mr. Jarvis added. "Some traditions are meant to remind the younger generation not to forget their respect for their elders. That's something we can't lose."
Estelle listened carefully to her grandfather's words. "I'll remember."
They chatted for a little longer before Old Mr. Quintin arrived with Evelyn.
"I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away from Estelle," Old Mr. Quintin said with a laugh.
Estelle, linking her arm with her grandfather's, smiled warmly. "It's just that I missed my grandpa."
"Not your mentor?" Old Mr. Quintin huffed.
"I missed you both," Estelle replied smoothly.
