On our way back from the gas station, that was another dead end, Dallas and I make a detour to a small town with a little bar. A bar called Rocky Stone Bar, there aren’t many cars even with it being this late at night. When Dallas and I silently make our way inside, it’s a bit more crowded then I thought it would be. Granted, I guess the town is pretty small, maybe it’s easier for people to just walk here.

Dallas and I are still pretty down that the gas station didn’t even have security cameras, though the cashier did say that there was a girl that looked similar to the picture of Amy we showed him, but she was a little beat up with bruises on her face. I’m not sure what would have happened to her that gave her bruises unless she ran into her dad, but I doubt she would have been walking away after if that happened. The cashier also informed us that they didn’t see which way she took off, so we’re back to nothing.

We sit down at the counter and wait for the bartender to come over so we can order our drinks. “Hey Frank.” The bartender says as she grabs a beer from the fridge, opens it and hands it to him. He pauses for a second, looking at the beer for a period of time, that seems strange. My brows scrunch together in confusion as I watch him, then he sighs loudly and walks over to a corner table, without drinking a single sip. That was odd, the bartender walks over and sees me watching the guy she called frank. “He’s always been a strange one, but he’s just upset. We just lost someone, and… Well, it’s a long story.” She sighs, “What can I get for you guys?” She looks at Dallas and I expectingly. I give her as much as a smile as I can manage, “Just two on draft, please.” She smiles and walks away.

I look over at Dallas when he nudges my arm, “Maybe she came through here. Maybe the bartender knows something.” Dallas says, his eyes shining with the possibility. He hasn’t been doing well since Amy left, he keeps getting sick and getting random pains. I don’t know for sure if it has to do with Amy, but the timing was suspicious, and the doctor says there’s nothing wrong with him. I nod. What could it hurt to try?

When the bartender comes back over to us, I stop her from leaving. “Hey, we’re actually out looking for someone.” I pull out my phone to the picture of Amy, I feel the familiar ping in my chest whenever I see her smiling face, and show her the phone. “Have you seen her?” I ask and the bartender leans over and looks closer at the picture. “Hmmm… Sorry, I can’t say I’ve ever seen her. We don’t get many outsiders around here.” She says, looking up at me.

She seems to study my face for a second before she smiles and walks away. “Worth a shot.” Dallas whispers, then takes a sip of his beer. I watch the bartender, something felt off about that interaction. I watch her discreetly and I see her look at the guy Frank and then give a slight nod in our direction. Strange.

Once we finish our beers in silence, we start to head out of the bar. I notice that guy Frank discreetly stand up and start to follow us out. Once we’re out of the building I stand to the side, earning me a side-eye from Dallas. Frank walks out a second later and I have him pinned up against the wall.

I stare at him as he growls at me, “You’re a wolf?” Now that I’m closer to him, I can scent him better. He growls again not answering me, but I don’t need him to, now I know. “Why are you following us?” I get into his face, and show my canines. He manages to push me off of him and straightens his clothes. “We don’t take to kindly to people asking questions around here. I’m just making sure you two leave without any problems.” He responds, and I stare at him like he’s crazy.

“We’re not causing any problems. I’m just trying to find my girlfriend. I swear we’re not trying to start anything. My girlfriend ran, because she thought she was protecting us and we’re just trying to find her to help keep her safe.” I pull out my phone again. “I get you guys don’t like people asking questions, but we’re only trying to help her. Have you seen her?” I show Frank the picture now. He hardly glances at it. “No.” He says and I nearly throw
