I slowly close the door and let them sleep, heading to my room. This whole room hasn’t felt the same since Amy left, it even feels stranger now having them all across the hall. I fall asleep thinking about all the questions racing through my head. I hope she’ll answer them.
When I wake up, I instantly walk to the kids’ room, but no one is in there. I race down the stairs, instantly thinking the worse. Then I hear the sound of children’s laughter mixed with my mom’s coming from the kitchen. I round the corner and see my parents sitting at the dining room table, playing with the kids. I look up and see Amy’s back to me, standing in front of the stove cooking. Her hair isn’t black anymore, it’s the beautiful platinum blonde I remember. Was she wearing a wig? She turns around to set a plate of food in the middle of the table. Once she sets it down, she looks over at me and gives me a slight smile.
I can’t deny how beautiful she is, she’s still breathtaking even after six years. She looks thinner than I remember though. My mind instantly reminds me of how Dallas said she fainted after telling him she missed me. I need to set up her doctor’s appointment. Griffon finally turns to see me, while I’m taking in the view of this new family. “Daddy!” He runs over to me, wrapping his tiny arms around my knees. I laugh and pick him up. “Daddy! Mommy told us you and her used to play in a creek together! Me and Heather want to go play there with you! Can we?” He asks excitedly, I smile. “Of course we can! How bout you guys finish breakfast and Daddy has to make a few phone calls then we’ll head over. Sound good?” He nods his head excitedly.
All of the sudden there’s commotion at the front door, everybody in the room turns instantly ready to defend these two beautiful children, when I see Mia race past me. Mia runs up to Amy and instantly jumps into her arms throwing her arms around her neck. Amy laughs but falls on her ass, not being able to hold Mia up.
She tries to hide it, but I see her body tremble. She seems weak, I don’t like seeing that. Cole and Walker aren’t far behind. Walker walks behind Amy pulling her up, though Mia’s still attached to her. Walker and Cole bear hug the two girls and start squeezing her tightly. I instantly mind-link them both ‘Stop! She’s weak and sick, loosen your grip.’ They both let her go, and Cole pulls Mia off of Amy while Walker holds Amy upright.
She smiles at all her friends, “I missed you guys too.” She says as she pulls Mia in for a side hug. Griffon pushes himself out of my arms and walks over to the group. “I’m Griffon. Your obviously Aunty Mia, and your Uncle Walker, and your Uncle Cole!” He exclaims, looking at everybody correctly. Ha! Amy must be really good at telling bedtime stories. “That’s right, little man. Wow, you look just like your daddy.” Walker says looking over at me, I shrug. There’s no denying it, that kid looks just like me. And Heather looks just like her mom. Mia bends down and pulls Griffon in for a hug. Then looks up at the table and sees Heather. Mia walks over to Heather while Walker and Cole ruffle Griffon’s hair. Heather jumps up and throws her arms around Mia. “ Aunty Mia!” She shouts excitedly, wow she warmed up to her fast. Mia brings her up to Walker and Cole and she instantly hides her face into Mia’s neck. “What’d you tell her about us, buttercup?” Cole exclaims jokingly, I see Amy flinch at the nickname, but doesn’t say anything about it. She smiles over at him, “Only the truth Cole, only the truth.” She says as she walks over to the table to make herself a plate. Everybody laughs.
