Chapter 126
Liam takes me back to his house, where the kids jump on both of us, excitedly. We do our best to keep our mood from the kids, but we don’t do a good job. “Why are you both sad?” Griffon yells, looking accusingly between Liam and I, wrapped in my arms. We don’t speak, so Griffon’s eyes laser focus on me. “What’s wrong? What’d the doctor say? Is mommy hurt?” He turns asking Liam. I sigh, setting Griffon on the ground and bending down to his level. “Sweetie, mommy’s sick. They’re some things your dad and I need to discuss, and then we’ll tell you everything. Okay?” I say calmly, feeling anything but. I promised a long time ago I’d never hide anything from them. I may kiddy it up for them sometimes, but I don’t hide it. Griffon stares at me accusingly, but instead of answering he latches onto my neck.
His scent instantly calming my never stopping brain, for a second. Then we’re interrupted when we hear a trailer pulling up, outside the house. Everyone looks to see who it is, and I instantly know it’s Nick and Hazel.
Griffon detaches from me and him and Heather run outside to greet them. Liam gives me his hand to pull me off the ground. I take it, but my legs start wobbling, and he has to hold onto me under my arms. He looks at me nervously, and I give him a small smile trying to regain my balance. Once I do I go outside to greet them. Nick pulls me into a hug, and I hear a low growl behind me.
Nick pulls back and looks at my face, giving me a smile. He then turns and holds out his hand to Liam, “You must be Liam.” Nick says with a chuckle. Liam begrudgingly takes Nicks hand and gives it a quick shake. Liam sniffs the air then looks at me confused. I’m not sure why, but I just shrug. “Where’s Hazel?” I ask, he smiles, She’ll be here soon, she drove the van.”
I nod and walk into the trailer and grab my binder. As I start to walk out, I hear Dallas. “Mate!” I step down on the last step, behind Nick. Dallas is staring at us, and I’m really confused right now. He couldn’t possibly know if I was his mate. I see the same fear in Liam’s eyes as mine, when I look around at everybody. When my eyes settle back on Dallas, I see he isn’t looking at me. He’s laser focused on Nick. Nick! Nick is his mate! How is that possible? It’s rare for a wolf to be mated to a human, especially if they’re higher in rank.
I get down out of the trailer and look over at Nick. He’s standing wide-eyed looking at me guiltily. Dallas is standing ten feet from us. “Nick?” I question him, not really sure what I’m asking. The look on his face though makes me think there’s something he hasn’t told me. “I’m sorry Amy, I should have told you. I just didn’t want you to be scared having me with you. You needed someone there to protect you.” He finishes, pleading with his eyes. Wait, what does he mean? Is Nick a wolf? My eyes widen at the realization, and my anger overtakes me.
I jump on top of Nick dropping my binder, making him fall to the ground in surprise. I slap him in the face, before someone arms wrap around my waist pulling me off of him. “How dare you!” I scream, “You’re how he was able to track us! He haunts werewolves Nick! As soon as he got your scent mixed with mine, he’s been tracking you! That’s why he always found us! You never thought that was important information to tell me!” I can’t see straight I’m so angry. “Amy, I’m sorry. I felt a pull towards you from the second I saw you. I knew I needed to protect you. I knew you wouldn’t let me stay if you knew!” Nick pleads.
