Chapter 144
I sit there, watching all of them sleep. My family. He still wants this. He still wants us to be together and happy. I was always so scared what I would come back to, if I ever got the opportunity to come home, and now I know. He’s never stopped wanting me. He never moved on.
He’s been waiting for me just like I have been him. This is where I’ve always belonged. With Liam and our kids. With Dallas and Walker, Cole and Mia. And I didn’t realize Nick and Hazel were supposed to be with us to, but clearly, they were.
I lay my head down and finally pass out, thinking about what the future holds, if we make it out of this.
The morning comes so much faster than I want it to. I’ve never spent a single day without my kids. Excluding when they were born and I passed out, but even then, I was still with them.
I’m so nervous, I hate the idea of something happening to them and not being there to help or just comfort them.
“I want to stay!” Griffon shouts at Liam, as he puts shirt over his head. Griffon’s being stubborn about getting dressed, thinking that will make it to where we don’t make him go.
“I know you do, Bud. But it isn’t safe. We can’t be worried about you and your sister’s safety while we try and get rid of the bad man.” Liam explains.
We told them what they needed to know. If we don’t come back, they’ll understand why. “I can help!” Griffon exclaims, and Liam sighs putting his head down. I walk over to Griffon, getting down on my knees to be eye level with him. “Sweetie, if things go badly, we need you to be with your sister so you can protect her.” I say calmly, looking into his eyes.
His eyes turn fierce, “I’ll always protect Heather.” He says quietly. I smile. “I know, baby. And you don’t want Heather anywhere near the bad man, right?” He looks at me, like he knows exactly where I’m going with this, and nods. “Then we need you both hidden and safe, until we come and get you.” I finish softly, and he takes a deep breath.
“Okay mommy, but who’s going to keep you safe? I’m your little protector.” He whispers and I nearly fall apart. I look back at Liam, then I look back a Griffon with a smile, “We have a village now, baby. They’ll protect me while you protect your sister. Then, when you get back, we’ll get Walker to start training you, so you can start helping to take out the bad guys. Okay?”
Griffon smiles, “Really?” I laugh and nod. Pulling him into a hug. Squeezing a little too tightly. I’m going to miss them so much.
My little protector, I look over and see Heather, my little angel, I reach my arms out for her wanting her to join the hug. She does, and I squeeze them both tightly.
