I hear the words leave his lips and the smile that crosses my lips is indescribable. But as I watch the smile slowly fall off Aspen’s face as she looks up at my son, I can’t help but feel bad.
She was clearly hoping he hadn’t found his mate, because she thought she was his mate. I glance over at Mia, and while I know she’s happy for Griffon, she can tell her daughter is hurting.
Griffon lets go of Aspen and slowly starts walking away towards the girl who just walked in. I watch as he stands in front of her, then looks around at everyone in the room staring at them.
The girls shy smile as she follows his gaze and her cheeks blush. Griffon smiles at her warmly, then motions back towards the door.
She takes his extended hand and lets him lead her from the ballroom to somewhere private they can talk.
I look back over just as Aspen denies Mia’s advance to try and comfort her and walks out of the ballroom a different direction.
Mia starts to follow her, but I go to her, grabbing her arm and stopping her. “You know she wants to be alone right now.” I whisper to her. She glances towards the door where she left and looks back at me with tears glistening in her eyes. “She’s too young to have her first heartbreak.” She whispers back and I look at her sadly. ” I know. She’ll get through this though. She is by far the strongest wolf I have ever meant.” I tell her and she nods. “She really is.” She responds and I nod.
“We’ll go talk to her in a little bit. Let her cool off for a minute.” I tell her and she nods. “You’re right.” She says sadly, still looking at the door she left through.
Walker comes up beside Mia and wraps his arm around her waist pulling her to him and Mia rests her head on his chest. Liam comes up beside me and wraps his arm around my waist.
He looks down at me with a small smile, half happy and half sad like I am. Aspen is important to us, has been since she was born, but Griffon finding his mate could be a game changer around here.
He might finally start acting like himself again. Start taking up more responsibility. Start acting like the future Alpha we’ve known he could be since he was born.
‘Your plan worked, Angel.’ Liam mind-links me. I try not to smirk. I look up at him, ‘I just didn’t think about it hurting Aspen.’ I respond and he purses his lips. ‘She’ll be okay.’ He tells me and I give him a little nod. ‘I know, but it’s still hard.’ He nods and looks over at Walker.
