Chapter 191

It’s been two days since, and we still haven’t found anything, but luckily Liam still hasn’t flipped out. I’m one hundred percent positive that if they were going to hex him again, they would have already.

Liam feels they may just be waiting until a certain time, so he’s still taking precautions.

It’s early in the morning, Dallas, Nick, Liam and I haven’t been able to get much sleep lately, so we’re up discussing things in the office.

“Hopefully, I can sleep with my mate once this is all settled.” Nick says and I look over at him with a small glare. Nick chuckles, “Hey, you think you’re going through this alone, but with Dallas always having to be with you. I don’t get much time alone with him. Why do you think I’m here, rather than sleeping?” He asks, and I swallow.

I glance over at Dallas who’s looking over at Nick guiltily. Nick puts his hands up in surrender, “Hey, you know I love Amy. I understand the need and want to protect her. I’m not asking you to stop. I’m just excited to find this stupid witch so I can have my mate back.” Nick explains.

I let out a sigh, knowing that even if I told Dallas to spend more time with his mate right now, the order would fall on deaf ears.

I probably can’t even get Liam to Alpha command him away, because Liam thinks him being around is for the best. Plus, we’re not big on taking away free will unless necessary.

“I’m going to go get something to eat.” I tell the room and Dallas and Liam stand instantly to follow me. I roll my eyes but accept my fate. There’s no convincing them that I will be fine by myself.

I open the door and almost run right into Nadia. “Oh, sorry.” I tell her. I look up at her, then look behind her to see if Griffon is anywhere, but I don’t see him.

“Oh, goodness. It’s okay.” Nadia responds, and I look around her again. “What are you doing up so early?” I ask her, and she looks back at the staircase before looking back at me.

Liam comes up behind me, and wraps his arm around my waist, and I see her watch the motion with intensity. I narrow my eyes at her. Why would she care that Liam is holding me?

“I couldn’t sleep. Just went out for a walk.” She tells me, and I nod. “Does Griffon know where you are? With a killer on the loose, I’m sure he’d be nervous letting you go out alone.” I tell her.

She looks at me, almost glaring, but she covers it with a smile. “I told him before I left. I told him not everybody needs escorts.” She says snidely. My jaw clenches, but I keep the smile on my face.

I slowly nod my head, and Liam pulls me a little closer to him. Like he knows I’m about to lose my shit on this girl. It’s been awhile since I’ve had to deal with high school bullies, and something tells me, this girl was one.

“Okay just stay safe.” I tell her, and she nods before dismissing herself and walking the rest of the way to her

room.

I stand there staring at the closed door for longer than I should, but that was weird. Right?

“Well, that didn’t help her come off the suspect list.” Nick whispers from behind us.

I look up at Liam behind me to see how he felt about the exchange. He looks at me skeptically, and shrugs.

Guess I agree with Nick. That was strange.” Liam whispers to me, and I nod. Happy he’s finally starting to see that there’s something strange about her.

My main goal in life is to find this witch, so I’m still in my office with Dallas while I try and figure anything out.

Griffon walks in and comes over to sit on my desk. I look behind him and see Nadia’s not with him.

For someone who knows no one in the pack and wants to get closer to their mate, I feel like they’re apart a lot. ” Where’s Nadia?” I ask him and he sighs, “Went for a walk.” He tells me.

I nod considering. “You know afternoon walks are one thing, but walks in the middle of the night could be really dangerous, Griff.” I tell him and he tilts his head looking at me.

“What are you talking about?” He asks, and I tell him how I saw her this morning coming back from a walk. “She said she told you.” I explain and he shakes his head and looks like he’s thinking about something. “Oh, I must’ve forgot.” He tells me and my eyes narrow on him.

“Is everything going okay between the two of you?” I ask, getting the sense that something is off.

He looks towards the door again, then back at me. “Of course everything’s fine.” He says with a little bite behind it. I slowly nod my head, and he rolls his eyes. “You know you don’t know everything, right? We’re fine. Stop trying to read more into it.” He snaps and I sit back straighter in my chair.

“Griff, I was just asking.” I tell him and he rolls his eyes again. “Yeah. I’m sure that’s all this is.” He glares at me and gets up off my desk and stomps out of the office.

“Well, someone’s a little defensive.” Dallas jokes, and I watch the door where Griffon left. “Something’s wrong.” I tell him and Dallas walks in front of me. “Nothing he can’t handle. You need to worry about this.” Dallas says, and I shake my head.

“But if it’s her, he could be in trouble.” I tell him and he shakes his head and looks at the door. “Maybe he’ll talk to Liam.”
