Chapter 197

Liam and I wait inside the office for Griffon to come in. He’s not going to like what we have to say. It never ends well when someone questions your mate, but we have to warn him that not everything might be on the up and

Griffon walks in slowly, eyeing us suspiciously. “Am I in trouble?” He asks and I want so badly to say yes. The fact that he Alpha commanded Aspen alone is enough for him to be in trouble, but he’s grown now. There’s not much we can do about it, other than making it right.

“You’ll take the Alpha command off Aspen.” Liam says sternly and Griffon’s mouth slackens in return. “Are you kidding me? She was being disrespectful to her future Alpha and Luna!” He says and I look at him like I’ve never seen him before.

“Don’t look at me like that! You don’t tolerate disrespect.” He says pointing his finger at me. “No, I earn their respect and keep it. I’ve never felt the need to have Liam Alpha command respect for me. We don’t do that, and you know it.” I tell him and he glares at me. “No, you guys don’t do it, maybe I want to do things differently.” Griffon returns and the breath catches in my throat.

“Enough!” Liam shouts. “You will not speak to your mother that way. And if you want to do things differently you can consider it when you run the pack, though I hope you don’t. Your mother and I have worked hard to make this a pack that you could be proud of and happy to follow in our footsteps, but if you want to ruin that, that’s on you. As of right now, I’m still Alpha and as far as I can tell I will be for the foreseeable future. You will make this right with Aspen, or there will be consequences.” Liam yells, standing to his feet and glaring at his

son.

“Whatever. Are we done?” Griffon asks and I close my eyes and shake my head. I’m still not used to him acting like this, and I hate it.

“No. We wanted to talk about your mate.” Liam says, and Griffon’s whole body stiffens. “What about her?” He growls and Liam and I look at each other, as if saying maybe now’s not the time.

Griffon’s jaw ticks and he turns to glare at me. “What? You don’t like her either? You think I’ve changed since she’s came too?” He pauses, like he expects us to answer before he starts up again. “You ever think maybe you haven’t giving her a chance? She’s only been here a couple weeks and everyone in this pack seems to hate her! You ever think I’m acting this way because the people I care about most can’t just get over themselves for five seconds and see she’s a sweet girl who just wants what’s best for this pack!” He shouts and I lean down.

I pull my desk open and grab the jewelry box out of the drawer. Setting it on top of my desk and moving it closer to him.

He stares at the box, “What is this?” He asks, and I nudge towards it, “Open it.” I tell him. He moves closer and grabs the box, opening it and staring at the contents. “Is this?” He doesn’t have to finish as he looks up at me, “ Yes.” I nod and he looks back at the necklace.

“I thought you lost it?” He says and I nod again, “I did. We found it… In Nadia’s room.” I tell him and his eyes snap up to mine.

“Why were you in Nadia’s room?” He growls and I shake my head, “That’s not what’s important here.” I tell him and his body starts shaking and I know he’s trying to control his shift.

I glance over at Liam, who’s already moving in around his desk to get in front of him, “Griffon! Stop and think

about what this could mean. If nothing else there’s more going on here then you understand. We need to talk to Nadia and find out where she got this.” Liam tries to reason, but Griffon just looks up at him with cold eyes, a low growl leaving him.

“You will do no such thing. I am her mate and when she’s ready to talk about her past, that’s when we’ll talk about it. You will not push her.” He says glaring into Liam’s soul.

Griffon steps back and looks over at me, “You wanted this. You wanted me to find my mate and now, just like Aspen, you can’t stand it. Why won’t you two just let me be happy?” Griffon accuses me, and my eyes soften.

“I do want you happy, Sweetie. You know I do.” I try to push through, but he’s lost to his rage. “No, you don’t! You wouldn’t be doing this if you did! You just want to keep me under your thumb the rest of my life. Already lost one kid, so you can’t stand to lose another! You won’t like the outcome of this, Amy.” He says, calling me by my name, which hurts more than I’d like to admit.
