Chapter 198
What the hell is wrong with everybody? Why does everybody think I’m going to hurt them? Am I really not allowed to get angry without everyone thinking I going to kill them?
Everyone hates my mate, and they just expect me to be okay with that? Expect me to just sit back and let them all talk shit on her?
I slow my walk just as the fresh air hits my face from opening the front door. I step outside onto the porch and look towards the sky. Why did she have that necklace?
“Hey.” I hear whispered next to me, and I look over to see Aspen sitting on the chair on my porch. “Aspen.” I whisper back and go to sit on the chair next to hers. Though hesitantly, but she doesn’t tell me to fuck off, so I
take that as invitation.
We sit there in silence for far too long before she finally talks. “I knew you wouldn’t hurt me.” She whispers and I close my eyes and swing my head towards her. “Really? Because apparently hurting people is my thing now.” I tell her, still angry with my dad for even suggesting I might hurt my mother.
She nods. “I stand by everything else I said though. I didn’t come here to apologize.” She tells me, and I chuckle. “You wouldn’t be you if you had. Why are you here then?” I ask her and her eyes glisten as she looks at me, “To apologize. But not because I want to. Because it’s the respectful thing to do.” She grits out and my whole body deflates.
The Alpha command.
“I don’t want it.” I tell her and she shakes her head. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have…” “Stop!” I beg her, and she snaps her mouth shut.
“I take it back! You don’t have to follow my last command.” I try Alpha commanding her again and she lets out a deep breath, like a weight physically lifted off her shoulders.
I look at her guiltily and she looks at me like she’s never seen me before. “Aspen.” I start, but she shakes her head and cuts me off. “No. You don’t get to be sorry.” She tells me.
She stands up and starts to walk off the porch. She turns around and glares at me, “Everybody else is the problem. Right?” She asks and I look at her confused.
She shakes her head, like I’m the stupidest person she’s ever meant. “There’s a black cloud starting to form above your head, Griffy. And an even bigger one coming for the entire pack. I suggest you get your head out of your ass before everything and everyone you’ve ever loved disappears.” She sighs and looks away, then back again. “I know you feel it, Griff. The wrongness, the fog.” She says cryptically, and shiver rushing down her spine and mine as we both shiver in unison.
“Hopefully, you’re able to fight it.” She whispers turning around and walking down the sidewalk.
I stand up and rush to the end of the porch, “Aspen! What are you talking about?” I shout at her as she walks away. “Guess well find out soon enough.” She shouts back without turning around.
I stare at her as she walks down the street. What the hell is she talking about? What black cloud?
“Hey, Griffon.” I hear Nadia’s voice from behind me, and I turn to see her walking towards me in the grass. What are you looking at?” She asks, looking behind me at the space where Aspen once was.

I turn fully towards my mate and need to know one thing. “You had a necklace in your room. Where did you get it?” She chuckles, “You’re going to have to be more specific. I have a lot of necklaces.” She says and I swallow.
This is going to tell her they went into her room. “The one in the jewelry box. The wolf pendant and broken chain.” I explain and her eyes widen. “You searched my room?” She asks, and I shake my head no.
“I didn’t, but people are suspicious of you, and they did and that’s what they found.” I try to explain, and her eyes turn to daggers. “So, your mom doesn’t trust me?” She growls and I shake my head, “Just tell me where you got it!” I snap at her and her jaw clenches as she looks up at the house like she can see my mother standing
there.
