Chapter 208

I walk away and start making our way towards Julia and John’s house.

I still don’t want to be anywhere near a car, so we walk. They live pretty far out, so we talk on the way.

“I know they weren’t really friends with anyone in the pack, but why didn’t they mind-link anyone?” Dallas says randomly, clearly still thinking about the Matthews.

I think about it for a minute before I stop walking and grab his arm to stop him. “That’s something, Dallas! Liam said they cut off his ability to contact anyone through mind-link. Maybe they couldn’t! Maybe that connects this to the witch!” I tell him and he nods.

“I mean, I understand what you’re saying, but again there’s no proof. Whoever this is, isn’t leaving anything behind. Yet, hiding in plain sight.” Dallas says and my teeth clench as I begin walking again.

“Yeah. There has to be something we’re missing though.” I tell him, and he nods. “But how do we find it?” He asks. I shrug, “Maybe Julia or John will have some ideas. I don’t think they’ve dealt with anything like this before, but it’d couldn’t hurt to ask.” I respond and he nods again.

We keep walking and I look over at him, actually look at him. He’s tired, he’s been doing so much work to keep me and everybody safe. Leaving his mate for days at a time, not sleeping, skipping meals. The bags under his eyes are proof enough of his exhaustion.

“Dallas.” I start and he looks over at me with a small smile, “Yeah, Aims?” He asks, and must see something in my eyes because he instantly starts shaking his head. “Don’t start.” He says and I shake my head back at him.

“A couple of days. Just til you get back on your feet. Maybe Cole can be my bodyguard for a little while.” I tell him and he shakes his head.

“Aims, stop.” He says starting to get angry. “Dals, I know your wolf needs to protect me, but your wolf probably wants his mate too. You and Nick hardly have any time together and I hate that for both of you. What would a couple of days do?” I ask and he shakes his head and pulls me to a stop so we can look at each other.
