Chapter 239

I look back at the closed door, confused. Before I hear the shuffle of feet and I turn to the giant room.

Griffon walks out of what I’m assuming is the bathroom, his navy jeans hanging low on his hips, and shirt off, showing me every line and muscle he has to display.

I swallow but make no other reaction. I can’t let his body be what finally makes me cave. I refuse.

He walks closer to me, and I don’t move, still standing at the door. My arms chained in front of me still and looking into his eyes.

I refuse to look down. I refuse to look down.

I use the picture in my mind of him standing behind Cameron with a whip in his hand as a vice. Keeping me from caving to this bond.

He smirks as he walks closer to me, like he knows I’m having trouble holding myself together.

He stands in front of me and my face tilts back so I can maintain eye contact. His smirk widens, “You forget, I know you, Aspen. You’re not as strong as you portray yourself to be.” He purrs, his eyes roaming over my face, like he’s trying to find something.

My eyes narrow, “You knew me. You have no idea how strong I am now.” I tell him and a flash of hurt crosses his features.

His teeth clench then he smirks, “Either way, you’re right. Just like you were always right.” He tells me, look at him confused. “What?” I ask.

and I

He grabs my hands, and undoes my chains, letting them fall to the ground then places something in my hand. My blood chills as I feel what he placed there. “I deserve to be punished. I want you to punish me for every life that was taken because of me.” He says looking into my eyes. The old vulnerability I remember shining in his eyes as he walks away from me and kneels to the ground.

I take a deep breath as I look down at the whip he placed in my hand. I can still smell Cameron’s blood on the fabric, and I cringe.

He wants me to whip him. Whip him for the Matthews, his grandparents… His parents.

I walk up behind him and his back scrunches as he gets ready for the blows.

I stare at his back for way too long. He honestly thinks he deserved this. He might deserve something, but it’s not this and not for what happened. No, it’d be for what’s happening.

I drop the whip and walk in front of him, kneeling down and looking at his face, while his eyes stay closed, like he’s still expecting me to hit him.

Finally, he opens his eyes, and they stare directly into mine. Emotions swimming there that I wasn’t even sure he felt anymore.

“Aspen, do it.” He tries to order, but it comes out as a pained whisper. I shake my head, “I won’t. Griff, you didn’t kill them. You were under a spell. I don’t blame you for what happened to them.” I whisper, placing my hand on his cheek and despite himself he leans into my touch, closing his eyes.

His eyes open onto mine again, “Everyone blames me.” He whispers and I shake my head, “I don’t.” I tell him and his jaw clenches. “You should.” He growls.

He takes his head from my hand and stands up, towering over me, while I stay on the ground mildly shocked.
