Silence, utterly complete silence travels throughout the room. I swallow and look over at Hazel, she tries to smile, but it falls short. “We’ll figure something out.” She whispers.

My teeth grit. “It’s not the sam

She told me she was going to do better. She was going to be stronger. That I… I wasn’t going to be able to get rid of her.” I whisper, then chaos ensues.

Liam throws the chair into the wall, Mia starts discussing options with Hazel, Griffon and Dallas start shouting, Cole and Heather whisper with Micah in the corner.

Everybody trying to figure out the best options. I look over at the only calm person in the room.

Walker.

He looks down at me and holds out his hand. I instantly stand and walk over to him, and he slowly pulls me out of the room and leaves them to discuss and freak out.

He pulls me down the hall and into an empty room where the silence envelopes us and we sit down on the bed. We sit down next to each other hand and hand and stare at the wall.

After we sit in silence for awhile, he looks over at me. “I’m glad you’re out of there. We’ll figure the rest out.” He whispers, wrapping an arm around my shoulder and pulling me to his chest.

A sob racks my chest as I nod and pull back, looking into his eyes. “She would have killed all of you. I’m not happy about what happened, but I know not all of us would have made it out if I hadn’t gone along with her plan. I may not have known you were coming, but I had to save Heather, and I’m glad I did it so I could save you guys too.” I tell him and he nods.

“We have about a month til the next full moon. We’ll think of something.” He whispers, pulling me back to him.

I shake my head. “It’s not the full moon we need to worry about.” I tell him and he looks at me confused. “It’s the red moon.” I whisper and he looks like he’s considering it.

“Well, that’s good. There’s only one a year.” He tells me and I give him a small smile. He grimaces, “It’s not going to be better, is it?” He asks, and I shake my head.

“Not if what she said was true.” I tell him and he nods, holding me a little tighter.

He chuckles, “Remember that time all we were worried about was making sure you and Liam ended up together?”.

I scoff out a laugh, “Has that ever been our only issue?” I ask him and his tongue ticks, “Maybe not, but how I wish it was.” He whispers and I smile, “Me too.” I whisper.

I pull away from him, “What’s going on with Griffon.” I ask him and he grimaces and looks down at the floor.” Please just tell me.” I tell him and his jaw ticks as he nods.

“After you left… We all thought you both were dead. Griffon’s guilt destroyed him. He changed and not for the better. Your pack changed from a safe haven to a prison, his fear of the witches, of the unknown. He did a lot of bad things in the name of safety, and it got to the point we couldn’t stay there anymore. My family and Nick all moved to Heather’s pack.” He explains and I nod. “And Cole and Dallas?” I ask, and he shakes his head. “Cole’s family couldn’t leave. Dallas chose to stay.” He responds and I look at him confused.

“Why couldn’t Cole’s family leave?” I ask and he looks away from me. “Griffon imprisoned Hazel and forced Finn to become his Delta.” He answers and my mouth falls open.

“He imprisoned Hazel? Why? Did she do something?” I ask, my mind reeling over all this. Walker shakes his head, “No. She was a witch and that was enough of a crime for him.” He grits out and I swallow.

“And Dallas. He wanted to stay?” I ask and he nods. “His guilt was eating him alive too. He helped Griffon destroy the pack and became like his advisor in how to make it ‘safer’.” He explains and I shut my eyes.

“That’s why you guys all can’t look at them.” I whisper and he nods. “They’ve burnt a lot of bridges. I’m sorry, Amy. I don’t know if we’ll be ever get things back the way they were.” He whispers, and I just fall into his chest and he holds me again.

We sit like that for awhile before Mia comes and gets us. She looks between us, and her eyes sadden when she looks at me, “He told you.” She whispers and I nod.

She walks over to me and pulls me into her arms and squeezes me tight. “You guys are back now. We’ll get all of this fixed up and hopefully things can go back to being semi normal.” She whispers and I shake my head.

I pull back and look at her. “I don’t know how long I’ll be able to stay ‘back’ and you’ve seen Liam. If I’m gone. I don’t think he’s going to help much.” I tell her and her jaw ticks as she grabs my shoulders and holds me firm.

“I don’t care what we have to do to make sure you don’t leave again. You are not leaving. We will figure this out. And stop talking like that. If Liam overhears you he’ll lose what little bit of sanity he’s holding onto right now.” She tries to make a joke, but we both know the truth in her words.
