Chapter 27

When I walk outside, I see Dallas’s wolf. He’s brown with white tips on his ears and tip of his tail. He walks up to me slowly and stops in front of me. ‘Is she okay?’ He asks sadly. I know he’s upset she doesn’t want to see any of us. ‘She’s still in pain, but she seems okay. She didn’t talk to me though.’ I answer, ‘Come on, let’s go inside.’ I gesture for my house, and he runs over to it and runs inside. Once I get inside, he’s walking out of my room dressed in my clothes.

He’s so upset, it’s written all over his face, then I see fury take over. “You know who did this! We need to do something!” He yells angrily at me. I sigh, “I think I know who did this. I can’t prove anything, and Amy hasn’t said anything. My dad says we can’t do anything until we’re sure.” I say calmly, knowing he’s not going to like my answer. His eyes are burning into my soul as he walks down the stairs. “Look Dallas, I care about her to. We’ll get her to talk and then we’ll punish whoever did this.” I say, he smiles evilly at me. The way he’s been acting lately, has me worried. It’s like he can’t control himself, and he’s usually the best at it. “Oh, please Liam! You don’t care about her! You didn’t even give her a passing glance until I did! You’re not fooling anyone! Especially her!” He yells and starts heading for the door. My anger snaps from his words! I lose myself and tackle him to the ground. He tries to push me off, but regardless of his anger I’m stronger than him. I punch him in the face, You have no idea how I feel. I knew her and cared for her long before you paid her any attention.” I say as calmly as possible to him. He grunts and I let him push me off of him.

Before he can say anything, my mom walks in the room. She looks between us, and her gaze lands on Dallas’s face. She walks over grabs his arm and leads him to the kitchen. His cut is already healing, but she grabs a towel and starts cleaning the blood off his face.

I hear the front door open, and Walker and Cole walk into the kitchen. Walker’s face doesn’t give anything away, but Cole’s always happy go lucky face is dim and frowning. They both stand behind us with their arms crossed over their chest. My mom looks down with the towel still in her hands, then looks up at each of us. She sighs, ” Guys, I know this is hard, but fighting each other isn’t going to help. She still hasn’t given names, so it’s just speculation at this point. The camera in the band room was turned off during the attack so the only person that can tell us anything is her. Right now, what I’m worried about is getting her better. You guys can watch over the house to make sure the attacker doesn’t come back to finish the job…”. I interrupt my mom, my eyes going black. “Finish the job? You think they were trying to kill her?” She looks down, seemingly trying to figure out if she should tell us or not. I stare at her intently, until she sighs and relents. “Well, she has a small fracture on her skull from being thrown against the wall. That paired with the hit to the head, the rib fractures, the bruises on her back from the wall, and the hits to her gut, that’s the conclusion we’re drawing.” She sighs, “I don’t think the people who did this intended to leave her alive unless they weren’t aware she was human, which I doubt. Or the people who did this didn’t understand how much more fragile she’d be considering she’s human.” She finishes, I can feel the anger filling the room, coming from all of us including my mom.

She’s always considered Amy as her own, this has to be hitting her hard to. “Look, why don’t you guys go down to the gym and work out some of your anger before you go over to watch the house. I don’t want you guys going over there in this state. You need to calm down. I’ll go over there now, and once you’re ready head on over.” She says, heading to the fridge to grab a couple casseroles that she had already made for them.
