Chapter 326
‘Hazel’s thinks the book Aspen and I found will be helpful. Especially since Aspen can read it.’ Griffon says into my mind. I don’t respond, taking in his words, but not trying to get overly excited.
I get humbled every time I get too excited about something.
‘Boundaries secure.’ Walker’s voice comes through. On top of the guards we have posted, we’ve started sending out the warriors on border patrol every thirty minutes. With so many people knowing our secret now, we’re being overly cautious.
Again, I don’t reply.
‘Is Amy back?’ I ask Dallas instead. She hasn’t been herself in days and I could really use my Amy fix about now. Dallas responds instantly, ‘Sorry, Liam. She’s still not herself.’
I sigh deeply. ‘Is she okay?’ I ask him, with the baby everything protective bone in my body is on edge, and that on top of not being able to do anything, has me going out of my mind. I can hardly stay focused on one thing at a time.
‘She seems… The same.’ He answers. Meaning she’s still laying on her bed staring at the ceiling.
I go to the giant window in my office, ready to look out and think about how everything happening is some sort of cosmic joke when Dallas’s mind-link opens back up.
‘Liam!’ He shouts so loud, I reach for my head to stop the throbbing, then I start running. ‘Liam!’ He shouts again. ‘Dallas! What’s going on?’ I shout back through the mind-link, but there’s no answer.
I’ve never run so fast in my life, and once I get down to the cells, I fond them completely empty.
I slow my run, seeing nothing, no Amy, no Dallas… The cell isn’t open, nothing is out of place, not even her bedsheets.
I take a deep breath, “Witches.”
Walker’s eyes snap to mine, “Hazel has this place locked down. How could they have gotten in?” He asks, and my eyes narrow. “How do witches do fucking anything? Fucking magic. Hazel’s strong, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t stronger!” I shout, frustration eating me alive.
Walker face goes back to worried, “Liam… That means…” My jaw ticks, and my eyes close. “What?” Lenny asks, and Walker answers. “It means they could be anywhere. That the warriors I already sent out aren’t going to find anything.”
My eyes snap open, “Let’s go. Maybe if we’re fast enough Hazel can track them.” I turn and we all start running to Hazel’s house.
Walker’s voice enters my mind, ‘She’s not alone, Liam. And you know he’d die for her.’ I don’t respond.
It’s literally the only thing keeping me together right now though.
