“Once upon a time, there was a young boy, about ten years old. He lived in a small village, and all of the townspeople were like one big family. They lived happily and peacefully. And one day they were set to celebrate at their town harvest festival. They would thank the Gods for their health and fruitfulness. They weren’t wealthy, but they were happy with what the Gods provided for them.”.

He turns off the flashlight and then dramatically turns it back on, “But then! In the middle of the celebration, the little boy heard the horses start making a lot of noise in the barn, so he went to settle them. The horses were very distraught about something, and he couldn’t settle them, one ended up kicking the little boy in the head, causing him to fall unconscious.”

I look back at Liam confused of where this story was going. Then Dallas continues, “When the little boy woke up, he heard several strange voices coming from where the festival was taking place. So, he quietly peeked around the barn door, and what he saw made his blood run cold.”

Dallas started flicking the flashlight on and off in his face as he shook his body like he was cold. “He saw the bodies of all his friends and family mangled and destroyed. He was so shocked that he remained silent in fear. Afraid to fall victim to the evil men responsible. As he watched these men their faces and bodies covered in blood. Their faces contorted and their hands became claws, their skin covered in fur. These men transformed into beast walking on four paws, they became wolves. The little boy who could never imagine such sorcery was

frozen.

He watched as these beasts left his village, and only once he was sure there were none left he made his way to his people. He saw his father and mother laying next to his little sister, all three had holes ripped through their chest and hearts removed, but as he looked around not a single heart from the villagers was found. He could only assume the worst; they had eaten them.”

I look around suddenly fully aware of being in a room full of werewolves. Do they actually eat human hearts? They all seem to feel my fear, because they all look over at me. Liam whispers in my ear, “Don’t worry, different cultures of werewolves thought eating human hearts made us stronger. It was a tradition a long time ago. It’s never done anymore, except maybe by the occasional rogue. It’s not accepted or tolerated anymore, it’s mean’t with death if they are caught.” Liam explains, which calms me some. I’m still terrified that it’s a thing. “Are you okay? Do you want me to stop?” Dallas asks, with worry written all of his face. I take a deep breath, and scoot a little closer to Liam. “No, I’m fine. You can finish.” I give him a small smile. He looks over me, seemingly trying to sense if he believes me and should continue, then he starts back up.

“So, the little boy was rightfully horrified. He made it his lives mission to get revenge on the beast that destroyed his home. He searched the world over trying to find anything that could make him stronger than the beast. Then, many years later he stumbled into a village. This village was known to house the worlds strongest witch. He told the witch his story and she took pity on him. She told him that she could grant him what he wanted, but it would come at a price.

The witch told him that in order to be strong enough to defeat his enemies he would have to sacrifice his family, and their souls would go to her. Now, the man had already lost his whole family, and his life was fully focused on defeating the beast, so he agreed to her terms.

She cast a spell that would make him stronger, faster, deadlier and live longer then all his enemies.

He set out to find the beast that killed his family. One by one he murdered them all, ripping out each of their hearts. Leaving one male to carry out their line. So, he could keep coming back.

Eventually though, he mean’t a girl. He fell in love and started a family, but not before he murdered the witch. He thought with her gone, there would be no one to collect on his debt.

He soon realized how wrong he was, when he woke up one morning to blood covering his entire body. He quickly realized it wasn’t his and went out to find his wife and two children dead on the floor with their hearts torn from their chest. It didn’t take him long to realize that he had murdered his whole family, without even knowing he had done it.

Now, it’s said he blames all of our kind for making him turn into the monster he became in order to avenge his family. So, when the moon comes out, he searches for the beast and kills any he can find and will continue until his dying breath. Over the centuries he started to be known as the moon man.” Dallas finishes turning the flashlight off and making the room completely dark. I jump at the sudden darkness and throw my face into Liam’s chest. “Fuck. Turn the light on Dallas!” Liam yells, but I don’t move my face. “Hey, it’s okay. The lights on now.” Liam coaxes me from his chest.
