Chapter 50

Liam walks me out of the house and starts leading me towards his. I’m so confused by what we’re doing. Why would we need old clothes to go to Liam’s house? I just go with the flow and let him pull me along, then he walks past his house. Then past the creek.

When we stop, I’m standing in front of the old tunnel Liam and I found when we were kids that went across town. I look up at him confused, “What are we doing here?” I ask, honestly not understanding. This is a strange place to take someone. He smiles and starts dragging me into the tunnel.

I have a sense of fear wash over me, I guess I’m not completely over everything that’s been done to me. I drop his hand once we’re barely inside and freeze. I’m sure my fear is written all over my face, but I can’t help it. Would there be a better place to kill someone and hide the body? I doubt it. This tunnel is never used and pretty well hidden, I doubt anyone’s been here since Liam and I found it.

Liam looks back at me surprised, then seems to have realization cross his face. He walks up to me and pulls me into a hug, but I don’t return it. What is this? Why did he bring me here? My mind can’t think of a single thing that he could bring me here for. “I’m sorry Amy, I was just thinking about when we were kids. I wasn’t thinking about this scaring you. We don’t have to walk through here. We can get to where we’re going above ground.” He says sweetly, looking into my eyes. I think about it for a minute, because while this is creepy if he was going to kill me, I don’t think he’d give me an alternate route. I finally find my voice and try and joke about it. “Well, Liam can you promise me one thing?” I ask, as I start pulling him into the tunnel. He smiles and nods, his face confused. “If you do kill me down here, just make it fast. I don’t want to die slowly, especially down here.” I laugh a little still leading the way. I don’t notice he had stopped until my arm pulls backwards. I turn looking at him confused.

His face looks like it’s running through a range of emotions, all of them sad. He slowly walks up to me and places his hand on my cheek. My face leans into the warmth of his hand. “Do you really think I’d hurt you?” He asks hurt. “No.” I answer instantly, surprising myself. “I guess being down here alone with someone triggered me. Honestly Liam, I don’t think you’d hurt me.” I’m really not lying. With everything that’s ever happened between us, he’s never been behind any of the bullying I received. Plus, if I’m going to be apart of the guys, I’m going to have to start trusting them more. Honestly, none of them have ever been apart of my beatings. They were just all connected with the she devils, and never stopped anything. Granted apparently, Liam tried in his own way, whether it was helpful or not is beside the point, I guess.

Liam still seems upset, “Liam, I’m fine let’s go.” I say taking his hand from my face and pulling him forward. He reluctantly lets me and starts following me, with our hands still intertwined. Once, we’re over that hump, I start thinking about what is at the other side of the tunnel. From what I remember, it’s just a car repair shop, maybe a few other run down businesses. Liam pulls me to a stop again, “It’s this way.” He smiles and points to his left. I take a closer look and see another smaller tunnel hidden over to the side. I look at him with wide eyes, “There’s more?” I ask, getting way to excited. He laughs, “Yeah, I actually learned in my Alpha training that these tunnels are actually evacuation tunnels. We had to learn about every one of them, in case of an emergency. They’re spread out all over town. I was so excited when I found out, I actually came to your house to tell you about it.” I look at him confused; I don’t remember that.

He looks down, “Yeah, I got up to your door and was about to knock, but I chickened out. I didn’t think you’d want to see me.” He says as he starts moving forward, not looking at me. I’m really not sure how to reply. I can’t say I would have wanted to see him, it took about three weeks before I was willing to invite him to my birthday dinner. Had Dallas not started talking to me, I’m curious if Liam and I ever would have started talking again.

We keep walking and I decide to ask. “Liam?” He slows his walk and starts walking next to me. “Do you think if Dallas hadn’t started talking to me, we would be talking at all right now?” I ask, looking slightly down, but I can still see his face. He seems to think about it. “Honestly, watching Dallas flirt with you was extremely hard for me.” I stop him, “Dallas did not flirt with me. People all just read that wrong.” I laugh, he does not. “Trust me, he was flirting with you.” I look away, I honestly don’t think he really did. He never tried to make us more then friends, ever. He even friend zoned me a lot, saying he only wanted to be my friend, even when I didn’t ask. ” Either way, I don’t know if he flirted with you to just get on my nerves or what, because he seemed to find enjoyment in driving me crazy.” He sighs, “But, I don’t know if I ever would have gotten the nerve to talk to you had Dallas not encouraged your friendship with all of us.” He finishes and I look away, I’m honestly not sure what answer I wanted. At least he’s not lying
