Chapter 96

I’m sleeping peacefully, when I hear someone rush into my room. I stand, instantly on guard, “Liam!” My dad yells and stares at me worried. I don’t even want to look at the bed. I know what he’s telling me before he even has to say it. “No.” I whisper as I finally look over and know what happened.
I rush out of the room, “She just made it out of the gates, the warriors on in pursuit.” My dad says behind me. I look where my car keys usually sit and see them missing. They won’t catch her, that car is made for the speed she’ll need to get away. I call through mind-link to Dallas. He has a fast car also. I wait for his car in my driveway, I don’t know how to feel. I know why she felt she needed to do this, I just wish she would have listened.
Dallas races through the streets we were told she was using, but we don’t see my car anywhere. We’re completely silent, when I get a call. My dad says they’ve spotted my car at an old grocery store. I don’t even have to say anything before Dallas turns the car and starts heading that way.
Once we get there, we see my car hidden to the side of the store. The warriors are standing nearby, and they shake their heads, silently telling me she’s not here. Dimitri walks over to me and places his hand on my shoulder. He looks sullen and I know he’s upset that she’s missing, he and Amy had gotten closer while he was guarding her house- all the guards that watched her house had. Her and Heather had a way of making you feel at home in their house.
He leads me to a portion of the woods, “She left the car and went this way, but after she hit the woods her scent disappears. I don’t understand, unless she got into another car.” Dimitri explains and my blood goes cold. Goddess, if he got his hands on her, what would happen? I can’t think of that right now. Maybe she was able to hide in the woods, she’s always had an uncanny ability to hide. Come to think of it, that probably has something to do with the magical properties of the necklace.
Fuck. I race to the car and look inside for any clues.
I look in the change holder and see a blue scrap of paper, and pick it up. I can see it’s from her from the handwriting.
*I’m so sorry Liam. I had no choice. I’m going to figure all this out.*
I crumple the letter in my hand and look up in the windshield, I guess hoping she’d be there right in front of me. Finally, letting my fear and anger get the best of me, I throw my fist into the windshield of my car. Shattering it to pieces. This letter does give me hope, that she didn’t meet up with him here and just hand herself over. It sounds like she’s going to go searching for answers.
When I step out of the car, Dallas is staring at me. I throw him the note and walk into the woods hoping to catch her scent. It’s no where, we’ve checked the entire perimeter and it’s like she was never here. I hear footsteps behind me, without turning I know it’s Dallas. “She didn’t even say bye. What do I do with this Dallas? I know she thought she was helping, but I can’t lose her. Not again…” I finally turn and look at Dallas. His hand is clutched to his heart, rubbing it like he’s in pain, but his face shows determination. “We’ll find her, Liam. No one wants this for her.” He says and it takes everything in me to not just march into the woods. It would be pointless, with no leads, no scent. It would be a wild goose chase.
Later that night, Dallas and I go home having nothing more to go off of. All the guys are waiting for us with a very upset Mia. My stomach is turning with guilt, fear, anger and above all sadness.
She left me. She left without saying goodbye. Granted, she probably knew I wouldn’t have let her say goodbye.
