Chapter 10 He Woke Up
Nira’s POV:

Those eyes shot open, cold and piercing, filled with a deadly energy that radiated power and danger. Even lying in bed, he still carried the presence of a true Alpha.
Our eyes locked before I could even look away, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe.
I instinctively tried to pull away, but in my rush, I slipped and fell against him. My lips brushed the corner of his mouth.
We both froze. The air felt like it stopped moving.
Just then. I heard the faint sound of a door opening from outside.
Reacting fast, I rolled off the bed and slid under the blanket next to him.
Good thing I’d lost weight in prison–otherwise, I wouldn’t have fit. Kade, at the same time, closed his eyes again.
The door creaked open, followed by footsteps entering the room.
They walked toward the bed and stopped. I held my breath and focused on the scent in the air.
Lyra told me right away–they were both high–ranking wolves. Definitely not just servants. Probably members of the Howell family. Which meant they had sharp senses.
All I could do was silently pray they wouldn’t notice me. Then I heard their voices.
“Jett, how is Mr. Howell today?” The speaker was a woman, older in tone.
“Same as before,” a younger man replied, his voice laced with concern. “Still hasn’t woken up.”
The woman sighed. “Mrs. Howell is losing her mind with worry. If he stays like this much longer, what are we going to do?”
Jett said something to comfort her, then led her out. Once they left, I threw off the blanket and sat up, taking deep breaths.
“Who are you?” Kade narrowed his eyes, scanning me coldly.
His gaze was sharp, guarded. Even with his body still weak, he looked completely in control of the situation.

I had a strong sense that he was dangerous. But since he could barely move. I finally relaxed.
I reached out and lifted his chin. My finger slowly ran across his skin as I said in a playful tone, “So cold, Kade. I’m supposed to be your future bonded mate, remember?”
I blew a soft breath against his face and gave him a mischievous smile, just to get under his skin.
Before I could push him further, the door suddenly burst open. I turned my head. Jett had returned.
In a flash, claws extended, and he lunged toward me. He was fast. But I was faster.
The moment he moved, I dropped my hand from Kade’s chin and grabbed his throat.
“If you come any closer, I’ll kill him.”
I stared Jett down.
I had one knee on the bed, pinning him down as I gripped his throat. A sharp needle snapped out from the ring on my finger, pressed right against his artery.
One push. That was all it would take.
Jett’s face changed instantly. He stopped mid–air and rolled to the side.
When he stood again, his eyes glowed red with fury. He clenched his fists and looked ready to rip me apart.
He narrowed his eyes and spoke coldly, “Come on, Miss Soren. You wouldn’t hurt him. Not with your family’s safety, or the Blazeborn Pack’s future, on the line.”
“Oh? So you know who I am?” I blinked, feigning innocence.
Before he could answer. I turned back to Kade and smiled. “Kade, how about we make a deal?”
