Nira’s lips trembled faintly before her teeth sank into my arm without warning, hard enough to break skin in an instant. I felt the sharp sting and the warmth of blood spreading, but I didn’t pull away, and I didn’t make a sound. Instead, I tightened my hold on her, steadying her as she clung to me through the pain she couldn’t control.
At first, her body had been shaking uncontrollably, her breathing uneven and strained, but little by little, the
as if that tension began to ease. The tremors faded, her breaths slowed, and the tight strain in her expression softened at the worst of it passed. Even then, she didn’t let go immediately. Her teeth were still pressed into my arm, was the only thing keeping her grounded.
Strangely, I felt no irritation at all.
If it had been anyone else, Odin would have taken over without hesitation, and I would have torn them apart before they even realized what they had done. But with her, none of that surfaced. The instinct simply wasn’t there.
Somewhere along the way, she had become an exception I no longer questioned.
“It’s alright,” I said quietly, lowering my voice without thinking, keeping it steady for her. “You’re okay now, Nira. It’s over.”
After a while, her grip finally loosened, and her teeth slipped free.
I eased her back down onto the bed, careful not to disturb her more than necessary, then pulled the blanket up over her. The bite marks on my arm were deep, the blood still slowly seeping through, but it didn’t concern me. Injuries like that barely registered and would heal quickly.
My attention stayed on her.
Γ Without thinking, I reached out and brushed a loose strand of hair away from her face, my fingers lingering for just a moment before I withdrew.
“Get some rest,” I murmured. “I’m right here.”
I had just started to stand, intending to grab some water, when I felt a sudden pull at my wrist.
I looked down and realized she was awake.
Her eyes were still unfocused, heavy with exhaustion, but her hand held onto mine tightly, as if letting go wasn’t an option.
“Don’t go…” Her voice was hoarse, fragile in a way I had never heard before, carrying a quiet urgency that caught me off guard.
I had never seen her like this.

For a moment, something in my chest tightened unexpectedly, and before I could think it through, I sat back down
beside her, turning my hand to hold hers properly.
“I’m not going anywhere,” I said, softer this time. “I’ll stay with you.”
Her fingers trembled slightly, as though she wanted to say something else, but in the end, she only held on tighter. There was unease in her gaze, but beneath it was something else, something quieter and more vulnerable, as if my presence alone was enough to steady her.
Watching her like that stirred something complicated in me, something I didn’t bother trying to define.
What I did recognize was this, I didn’t mind it.
I didn’t mind being the one she relied on.
I brushed my thumb lightly across the back of her hand. “You’re still running a fever. Get some sleep. I’ll be here.”
That seemed to be enough.
上
Her grip slowly loosened, her eyes closing again as she drifted back into sleep, this time without the tension that had gripped her before.
And I stayed exactly where I was.
Nira’s POV:
When I woke again, the room was filled with soft morning light filtering through the curtains, gentle enough that it didn’t hurt my eyes. My thoughts came back gradually, along with the dull ache in my shoulder that reminded me everything that had happened wasn’t just a bad dream.
The poison, the injury, and the constant suppression of Lyra’s energy had slowed my recovery more than usual, but I knew my body would catch up soon enough. That part didin’t worry me.
What drew my attention instead was something familiar,
I turned my head slightly and found Kade right beside the bed, asleep with his head resting against the edge. His. brows were faintly furrowed, like he hadn’t slept well, but in the soft light, the usual sharpness in his features had eased, leaving something quieter behind.
My gaze shifted downward.
