Nira, Rank 1, Perfect Score.

Right-beneath her was Kieran in second place, trailing by a full twenty points. Leland followed closely in third, just one point behind Kieran. Yvette and Felicia were tied for fourth and fifth with identical scores, but Yvette ranked higher for submitting earlier.
For a brief second, no one spoke, as if the result needed time to sink in.
Then the reaction hit all at once.
Even those who had expected Nira to perform well hadn’t anticipated this.
A perfect score.
The Shadowgrid Squad exam was notoriously difficult, designed to challenge even the most elite candidates, most of whom came from powerful bloodlines with exceptional intelligence. Across the years, only a handful had ever achieved full marks.
And now, the one who had done it was Nira, a girl with no wolf spirit.
On top of that, she had outscored second place by twenty points.
“Wait, who said she got in through connections? That’s not connections,/that’s pure talent.”
“Yeah, seriously. People were talking like she didn’t belong here.”
Felicia’s face turned pale, her fingers tightening around the fabric of her sleeve as she muttered under her breath, “That’s not possible… there’s no way she got a perfect score…”
Kieran stood nearby, his expression tense but controlled. He adjusted his glasses, his gaze settling on Nira again, no longer dismissive, but thoughtful, almost wary.
Not far from him, Yvette allowed herself a faint smile. “Skill speaks for itself.”
Leland remained the calmest out of all of them, his reaction barely changing. He had already gotten used to being outperformed by
Nira.
The examiner stepped forward, his voice cutting through the noise as he continued. “Next, we’ll go over the rules for the in-person evaluation. Today’s test is divided into two stages. First is the elimination round. Contestants will be grouped in tens and impete head-to-head. Winners advance until five finalists remain.”
He paused briefly, letting the room settle.
“The first contestant to advance will take the defender position in the final stage. The remaining four will challenge for that position.”
At that, a cold glint flashed through Felicia’s eyes. She clenched her jaw, her voice low but sharp. “I’m taking that spot. And when I do, I’ll make sure everyone sees what she’s really made of.”
Kieran didn’t respond, but something in his posture shifted. Unlike Felicia, he understood that this next stage was where everything would truly be decided.
The evaluation began.

Her movements were smooth and controlled, every action precise whether she was attacking or defending. There was no wasted effort, no hesitation, and her opponents found themselves overwhelmed almost instantly, their systems collapsing one after another under her pressure.
She was the first to advance.
“Nira, nice work. Head over there and take a break,” one of the proctors said, his tone already carrying a hint of expectation.
Not long after, Leland and Kieran secured their spots as well.
When they stepped off the floor and saw Nira already seated to the side, both of them paused, their expressions shifting in subtle but telling ways.
Yvette and Felicia also advanced,
Yvette’s performance remained steady and composed from start to finish, while Felicia barely made it through, her execution noticeably less controlled than before, her earlier confidence shaken.
After several rounds, the final five were decided.
Nira, Leland, Felicia, Yvette, and Kieran.
The final stage began.
Because Nira had been the first to advance, she automatically took the defender’s seat.
She sat at the center, her posture relaxed, her gaze sweeping calmly across the four challengers. The noise in the room seemed to fade around her, as though none of it mattered.
Felicia was the first to step forward.

She dragged her chair across the floor with a sharp scrape and dropped into the seat across from Nira, her wolf eyes locked onto her, hostility burning plainly in her stare.
