I took cover behind a boulder and held my breath, staring intently toward where the sound came from.

Where did they go?The lead hunter frowned and scanned the surroundings, confusion and impatience lacing his tone.

I heard movement just now. Why can’t I catch their scent at all?Another hunter muttered quietly. Sharp wolf claws glinted coldly on his hands.

The leader narrowed his eyes and spoke in a stern voice, They cannot have gone far. They must still be nearby. Split up and search. Do not let them slip away.

The five men quickly scattered and headed off in separate directions. They moved with cautious, light steps, clearly wary of Kade’s strength.

I climbed up a tall tree and pressed my body tight against the trunk. I peered through gaps in the leaves, keeping a close watch on everything happening below. My fingers rested lightly on my hidden weapon, ready to strike at any time.

I knew I had to take down these foes silently. A loud fight would draw more hunters and put me in grave danger.

When the first man walked beneath the tree, I flicked my wrist gently. A tiny poisoned needle shot out from my ring without a sound, sinking straight into the back of his neck.

His body stiffened instantly before he collapsed limply to the ground, not even letting out a soft groan. I slid swiftly down the tree and dragged his body into thick bushes to hide it.

Years of rigorous training under my foster father in the Silvermoon Pack kept my movements swift and silent, even without Lyra’s power to back me up.

I sneaked toward the second hunter, staying hidden behind trees. I released Ivory, my pet snake, from my waistband and tossed it lightly. The snake coiled nimbly around the man’s neck.

Before he could struggle, I signaled Ivory to tighten its grip. The hunter thrashed wildly for a moment before losing all strength and falling still. I recalled the snake, hid the body well, and moved toward the next target.

The third hunter stayed far more alert. His sharp wolf eyes kept sweeping across the woods, staying on constant guard.

I dared not approach rashly. I plucked a leaf and tossed it hard. The leaf struck his wrist sharply.

He cried out in pain. Before he could react, I appeared right behind him like a shadow. My hidden blade sliced swiftly across his throat.

Just as I got ready to conceal the body, shouts rang out from a distance.

Jax! Where are you?

My heart tightened. They had noticed something wrong. I quickly hid the corpse behind a nearby rock.

and ducked

The remaining two hunters sensed trouble. They hurried to stand back to back, keeping a close watch on every direction.

Something feels off. Why have they gone quiet?one man whispered, growing uneasy.

Stay sharp. That woman must be hiding somewhere close. The other stretched out his wolf claws and scanned the woods cautiously.
