Chapter 183 Lunch and Invitation

Nira’s POV:

Kade’s expression iced over in a heartbeat. His wolf eyesthose piercing, otherworldly eyes narrowed, and a flicker of pure irritation passed through them.

Lyra caught it too, she could sense the shift in the air, the low growl building in his soul.

The sheer intensity of his presence washed over the senior who’d stepped up. I could feel the goy’s body go rigid, a fine tremor running through him that he probably didn’t even notice.

The moment broke, and I finally found my voice. I gave the senior’s sleeve a gentle tug. Hey, it’s okay. You’ve got the wrong idea. We’re friends. He’s not a threat to me.

The senior looked from me to Kade, and seeing that I wasn’t under any duress, he gave a hesitant nod and moved aside. But his eyes stayed watchful, locked on Kade.

Kade just shot him one of those icy, dismissive glares before his hand closed around my arm, firm but not rough, and he guided me out of the training room into the quieter hallway outside.

Once we were alone, he stopped and turned to face me. His eyes held something complicated, an emotion I couldn’t quite decipher.

Nira,he started, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate in the space between us. It was steady, but there was an undercurrent of something elseexpectation, maybe. Don’t you have anything to ask me?

I looked up at him, my own feelings a tangled mess. A beat of silence passed before I finally spoke. Youyou knew it was me all along, didn’t you? From the beginning?

A slow smile touched his lips, and he nodded. Yeah. I figured it out last time, when I came to watch you take the Shadowgrid Squad tryouts.

I nodded back, pieces clicking into place. Then, tentatively, I asked, So you showing up here as an instructor… that was because?

Because of you,he said, straightforward and without a hint of pretense.

There it is. I knew it.

But I just blinked, trying to wrap my head around it. Why would he do that? Was this his way of saying that even though the engagement was off, we could stillbe cool with each other?

I wasn’t arrogant enough to believe a guy like Kadea powerful, bornwere with a strong wolf, from a top familywould have any real interest in a nobody like me, a girl without a settled wolf spirit.

Kade took a step closer, closing the distance. His gaze was intent on mine. I’ve been teaching classes all morning,” he said, his tone softening. I’m getting kind of hungry.

I picked up on the cue easily. Let me buy you lunch, then? As a thank you.

Okay. The agreement came with a warm smile that genuinely transformed his usually sharp features, making him look almost approachable.

stared at that smile, caught off guard for a second. I’d never seen Kade look sogentle. My heart did an involuntary, traitorous skip, and my eyes were glued to his face.

The realization that I was, once again, getting pulled into his orbit annoyed me. For the first time, I felt a spike of frustration at Lyra’s still unsettled energy.

If my wolf spirit were fully stabilized, I’d probably have found my true mate by nowthe one destined for me by the moon’s bond. Then maybe I wouldn’t feel this confusing, unwelcome draw towards Kade

Suddenly, Kade reached out and gave my forehead a light tap with his finger. It was a quick, familiar gesture that snapped me right out of my thoughts.

His voice dropped to a low, almost teasing murmur. Let’s go.

I rubbed my forehead, feigning annoyance to cover my fluster, and hurried to fall into step beside him. As we walked, it slowly dawned on me: that little tapit felt a bit too familiar. Too intimate for what we were supposed to be.
