“Absolutely not,” Edmund cut him off, his voice leaving no room for argument. “My niece decides who she marries. End of story.”

Barry maintained his polished smile. “Mr. Hudson, hear us out. A union between our families would unlock access to the combined markets of every pack in Meridia-”

“Escort them out,” Edmund interrupted, slamming his palm on the desk as he stood.

Before the Rothschild delegation had even cleared the driveway, the butler was back, this time presenting a card from the Herrera family. Then came a special envoy from the Rockefellers, followed by the heir to the Dupont fortune…

“Mr. Hudson, Mr. Dupont offers three diamond mines as a betrothal gift…”

“With all due respect, Mr. Hudson,” the Rothschild family’s elderly steward intoned, his chin lifted in a practiced show of superiority, “in lineages such as ours, daughters have always been assets to strengthen alliances. Your niece may possess a pure bloodline and notable talents, but without a wolf spirit, securing any standing in our circles would be a considerable favor to her.”

A sharp crack sounded as the pen in Edmund’s hand snapped. He lifted his gaze, his wolf eyes glowing with a cold, dangerous light.

“Quite right,” the Herrera representative chimed in, flipping dismissively through a file on Nira. “A girl raised outside our society should be grateful for the chance to marry into a proper family. Our young master’s consideration is a gesture of goodwill toward the Hudsons.”

Edmund’s claws were unsheathed now, his expression darkening.

The Dupont heir was even more blunt. “I hear she’s some kind of doctor? A public profession like that… she’d have to give it up after the wedding. A Dupont wife belongs at home, focusing on family.”

Bam!

Edmund’s clawed hand shot out, smashing the antique coffee table before him. Porcelain and crystal shattered across the floor. In one swift motion, he grabbed the Dupont heir by his collar and hauled him up. “Who the hell do you think you are?” he growled, his voice low and deadly. “You dare speak about my niece like that?”

One hour later, an emergency board meeting was in session.

“Terminate all current and pending partnerships with the Rothschilds, the Herreras, and the

Duponts. Effective immediately.” Edmund’s voice echoed through the boardroom. “And have legal draw up suits for defamation and slander against each of them regarding their remarks about my niece.”

The directors exchanged uneasy glances. “Sir, those alliances represent tens of billions in

revenue…”

“I don’t care if it’s a hundred billion. Cut them off,” Edmund snapped, throwing a folder onto the table. “Have you seen what these people are saying? ‘Wild child.’ ‘Uncouth.’ ‘Marrying above her station. My niece-the audacity to judge her!”

Gordon reviewed the meeting transcript Edmund handed him. Instead of objecting, he let out a robust, approving laugh. “Good! That’s exactly how you handle it!”

He then turned to Nira, who was wringing her hands. “What’s that worried look for, my dear?”

“Grandfather, won’t this cause serious problems for the family?” she asked softly. “Those families are powerful…”

“Powerful?” Gordon thumped his dragon-head cane firmly on the floor. “The Hudson family has stood for centuries. We don’t navigate by the approval of others.”
