Nira’s POV:

On the drive home, I rested my head against Natalie’s shoulder and let out a soft laugh. “Mom, don’t you think you went over the top back there?”

“Over the top?” Natalie replied without missing a beat. “My daughter is incredible-the whole world should know it!”

From the front seat, Killian added, “Oh, honey, I went ahead and ordered you a private jet. The interior’s been customized way you like it.”

Before I could even respond, Desmond chuckled from the passenger side. “Uncle, you’re going to spoil her completely.”

“I don’t care!” Killian and Natalie said in perfect unison.

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Beside me, Kade gently took my hand and whispered near my ear, “Guess I’ll have to work twice as hard to be worthy of the Hudson family’s little princess.”

He was joking, of course. If Kade-the future Alpha King-wasn’t good enough, then who would be?

Killian picked up the box labeled “5.” “Most little girls this age love dolls,” he said with a tender smile, Inside was a collector’s doll, dressed in a miniature version of the lace gown I’d worn as a baby.

With each box I opened, it felt like reclaiming a piece of the past. A diamond harpin for my tenth birthday, a custom made violin for my fifteenth, an elegant sapphire necklace for my eighteenth.

When I finally lifted the lid of the “22” box, froze inside lay a key and a folded document.

Then Natalie brought over a small velvet box. “This one’s just from me,” she said quietly Inside was an ornate brooch, set wit tiny photo of our whole family. “No matter where life takes you, we’ll always be with you.”

I couldn’t hold back any longer. I threw my arms around both of them and let the tears fall.

Over by the doorway, Gordon wiped his eyes discreetly. “Alright now,” he said, clearing his throat. “Time for cake.”

A five-tiered cake was wheeled into the room, Welcome Home written across it in smooth script.

Natalie guided my hand as we cut the first slice together. “From now on, sweetheart, I’ll be here for every single birthday.”

Every day since then had been wrapped in the warmth of my family’s love-happy, full, and sweet. But lately, I’d started to not Kade slipping out early and returning late. Some days, I barely saw him at all.

“Thomas, have you seen Kade?”

“Mr. Howell left early this morning, Miss. He hasn’t returned yet.”

I frowned. “Out again?”

Something was definitely off with him lately.
