“Nira, there you are.” Alden’s expression finally cased when he saw me, the tension in his face softening a little.
He gestured toward a stack of textbooks on the desk. “These are yours. Go ahead and take them back.”
“Got it.” I walked over and picked them up, and as I did, my eyes naturally shifted to the computer screen beside them.
The apple icon was still there.
I raised an eyebrow slightly. “What’s that?”
The question set Alden off again almost instantly. His expression darkened as he shot an annoyed look at the group nearby. “Earlier today, someone broke through the school forum’s firewall. They were in and out in minutes, and then this thing showed up on the screen. These guys have been at it for hours and still can’t do anything about it.”
I followed his gaze toward the group.
平
“They’re juniors from the computer science department,” Alden added. “They’re responsible for maintaining the forum’s network security.”
I nodded slowly.
So they had spent hours stuck on something I had put together on the fly.
For a brief moment, I couldn’t help making the comparison.
Back at Silvermoon Pack, even the average tech staff wouldn’t have struggled this long.
Then again, that wasn’t exactly a fair comparison.
All of us there, myself included, had been trained directly by my adoptive father, a one–of–a- kind alpha when it came to this field.
It made sense they
ouldn’t keep up.
“Hey, I’m Sterling.” The blond guy in the middle spoke up, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Nice to meet you,” I replied politely, then glanced at the screen again. “Do you want help with that?”
The reaction was immediate.
Every single one of them looked at me like I had just said something ridiculous. A couple of them even laughed out loud.
“Wait, hold on,” the bald guy behind Sterling said, his tone openly dismissive. “Did I hear that right? You’re offering to help us?”
He crossed his arms, clearly unimpressed. “We’re third–year computer science majors. We’ve been working on this for hours and still can’t crack it. And you think you can?”
Sterling frowned slightly, though his tone was more restrained. “Nira, this isn’t something you can just play around with. If you’ve got time, you might want to go hang out with your friends instead.”
I knew they had completely misunderstood me, but I didn’t feel like explaining myself.
Instead, I turned to Alden. “Alden, let me give it a shot.”
He didn’t hesitate. “Alright. Go ahead.”
I set the books aside, pulled the chair over, and sat down at the computer.
The moment my hands hit the keyboard, they gathered around me.
My fingers moved quickly, the rhythm steady and controlled as lines of code filled the screen one after another.
“This encryption isn’t random,” I said as I worked, my tone calm. “It’s built from multiple layered algorithms. It looks chaotic, but there’s a consistent structure underneath.”
At first, they clearly didn’t take me seriously.
But as the code continued to unfold and the terminology became more specific, their expressions began to shift.
“The attacker deliberately inserted misleading code fragments,” I continued, not slowing down, “but the data flow still follows a classic encryption framework. That’s the entry point.”
As I spoke, the apple icon on the screen began to flicker.
The change was subtle at first, just a faint distortion along the edges, but it was enough.

Leland and Trenton both leaned in, their eyes widening as they watched it happen in real time.
“This is working…” Trenton muttered under his breath, his voice edged with excitement.
A few more minutes passed.
Then I pressed enter.
The screen flashed, code cascading rapidly for a brief second before the apple icon started to fade.
Bit by bit, it disappeared completely, and the system returned to its normal interface.
“It’s gone!” Sterling let out a breath, the tension breaking as surprise and excitement took
over.
The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly.
The same people who had doubted me earlier were now looking at me very differently.
“Nira, right? I’m Leland,” one of them said quickly.
“I’m Trenton,” another added, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “And… yeah, sorry about earlier. We didn’t think you actually knew this stuff, let alone at this level.”
Trenton and Sterling exchanged a glance before both lowering their heads slightly in apology.
“It’s fine,” I said, brushing it off with a small wave of my hand.
Before I could step away, Leland suddenly reached out and grabbed my shoulder.
There was a sharp intensity in his eyes, almost obsessive.
“How did you do that?” he asked, his voice tight with focus. “Can you teach me?”
