Chapter 60 Reconnection

After dealing with everything at school, I went home, turned on my computer, and logged into the Black Net forum.
I opened my contact list. There was only one name. Still grayed out.
Five years ago, after I lost Lyra and got locked up, we lost contact. I didn’t even know if he was still around.
With nothing better to do, I browsed the forum.
This place didn’t care about rank, status, or pack background. Hackers traded exploits, sold tools, posted results, or picked up contracts.
Some were selling zero–day vulnerabilities, negotiating prices with buyers. Others posted jobs, offering rewards for completed attacks.
I was scrolling through the listings, looking for something interesting when a notification popped up. I clicked it without thinking.
The screen went black.
Then a white skull appeared in the center.
My eyes lit up instantly. It was him.
The same person who had taught me alongside my adoptive father. He used to assign me challenges like this all the time.
For a moment, it felt like I had been pulled straight back five years.
Time slipped by.
Half an hour later, I finally broke through the skull encryption, and the screen returned to normal.
A message popped up. “Too slow.”
I stared at it, feeling a rare moment of embarrassment.
Five years without practice. Most of that time spent surviving in prison instead of training.

Of course I wasn’t as fast as before.

I quickly typed back, “You’re right. It’s been a while. I’ve been out of practice, but I’ll get back
to form.”
He shot back another message almost immediately. This time, it wasn’t just one task, he dumped eight assignments on me at once, all with a three–day deadline.
Then he added one last line, blunt as ever.
“Practice.”
And just like that, he went offline.
And he went offline.
I stared at the screen for a while before letting out a quiet breath. Top–tier skills, terrible personality.
Still… I kind of wanted to meet him in person. Which pack was he from? What level?
After thinking it over, I decided to have my people at Silvermoon Pack quietly look into it.
Kade’s POV:
After closing the chat window with my “student,” I shifted my focus back to the documents on my desk.
A knock came at the door.
I caught the scent immediately.
“Come in.”
Jett stepped inside and placed a file in front of me. “This is the report you requested on Ironvale Pack. They’ve made a major breakthrough in wolf restoration. Their new technique allows for precise repairs even in complex conditions. It’s significantly ahead of anything else on the market.”
He paused briefly. “That said, they’ve been extremely selective with partnerships. They’ve already turned down several major packs.”
I considered that for a moment before speaking. “Set up a meeting with their alpha. As soon

as possible. Prepare our proposal materials as well.”

Then I added, “And find out why they’ve been rejecting other offers. I want leverage before we sit down with them.”
“Understood.”
Jett turned to leave, then stopped at the door. “You missed your scheduled treatment with Nira while you were away. You’re free tomorrow afternoon. Should I arrange it?”
My pen paused midair.
After a brief silence, I said, “I’ll contact her myself.”
Nira’s POV:
I didn’t sleep that night.
I finished all eight assignments X9 gave me in one go and showed up to class the next day in a surprisingly good mood.
It was my first computer science class at Howard Academy.
Halfway through, I realized the material was far too basic.
I stopped paying attention entirely, letting my thoughts drift back to the Black Net.
Compared to those assignments, which required real problem–solving and advanced techniques, this class felt like a waste of time.
By the time it finally ended, I packed up quickly and headed out to meet Tessa.
On the way, I passed Janice.
She shot me a provoking look. I didn’t even bother acknowledging her.
Someone like her wouldn’t even qualify to be an assistant back in Silvermoon Pack, let alone a rival.
“Nira, over here!”
Tessa waved at me from a distance.

“I’m starving,” she said, hooking her arm through mine as we headed into a restaurant.
The moment we stepped inside, we ran straight into Aven, Elise Hart, and Janice.
The second Aven saw me, his expression darkened. His wolf eyes sharpened as he strode straight toward me.
