The second Aven saw me, his expression darkened like I’d personally offended him just by showing up.

“Nira,” he said, his tone sharp with irritation, “you’ve got some nerve.”

I didn’t respond right away, I already knew how this would go.

“Getting into Howard Academy really went to your head, huh?” he went on, his voice rising. “You disappear, cut off the family like we don’t exist, and now you act like you’re too good for us. Do you seriously think you made it there on your own?”

I felt my fingers tighten at my sides, but I kept my face calm.

“Without this family,” he continued, stepping closer, “you wouldn’t have had a shot. You didn’t even have a wolf spirit back then. You were nothing.”

That was enough.

I met his gaze, cold and steady, but said nothing.

The silence only made him angrier.

His claws slid out as he moved toward me, like he was about to make his point the physical

way.

Before he could get any closer, Tessa stepped in front of me without hesitation.

“Back off,” she snapped. “You don’t get to talk to her like that.”

Aven stopped short, clearly thrown off, then scoffed. “Do you even know who I am?”

Tessa didn’t budge. “Don’t care.”

“I’m her brother,” he said, irritation flashing across his face. “Heir to Blazeborn Pack.”

That only earned him a short laugh.

“Right, her brother,” Tessa said, unimpressed. “And this is how you act? Showing up just to tear her down? That’s your big brother moment?”

Aven’s expression turned ugly. He pointed past her, his voice dropping into a low, threatening growl. “Take a look at the kind of people you’re hanging around with now.”

Derrick shifted slightly, putting himself between Tessa and Aven, his gaze cold and steady.

I finally stepped forward.

“If you’ve got something to say, say it to me,” I said evenly. “Leave my friends out of it.”

I held his gaze, not backing down.

“And as for ‘family support,” I continued, my voice cooling further, “what exactly did you ever do for me growing up? Now suddenly my life is your achievement? That’s a joke.”

Elise, who had been standing beside him, finally spoke up, her tone sharp and disapproving.

“Nira, that’s how you talk to your brother?” she said, narrowing her eyes. “You really have no manners.”

But she kept glancing at Aven as she spoke, like she cared more about his reaction than anything else.

Janice stepped in next, her voice soft and overly gentle as she reached for Aven’s arm.

“Aven, don’t get worked up,” she said, trying to smooth things over. “You’re just worried about her. If you explain it calmly, Nira will understand.”

I didn’t even look at her.

“We’re leaving,” I said, grabbing Tessa’s wrist and turning toward the entrance.

“Not happening.”

Aven moved

ast, cutting me off again, blocking the doorway completely.

“You don’t belong here,” he said flatly. “Turn around and walk out.”

Tessa let out a low, warning growl, her fangs flashing. If I hadn’t been holding her back, she

would’ve already lunged.

“Oh, so you own the place now?” she shot back. “You get to decide who walks in?”

Aven hesitated, just for a second.

That was all it took.

Elise stepped forward, lifting her chin with quiet confidence. “Actually, my family does own. this place,” she said coolly. “So yes, if Aven says you’re not welcome, then you’re not

welcome.”

She turned to the lobby manager and pointed directly at us.

“Have them removed,” she said. “And make sure they don’t come back.”

I understood exactly why she felt so comfortable saying that. Her family was tied to the Howells, and the current Luna was her aunt.

The lobby manager didn’t hesitate. He called over security and gestured toward us like we were a problem that needed to be dealt with.

“Escort them out.” he ordered.

Before anyone could take a step

“Stop. All of you.”

a voice cut through the tension.

A man hurried over, clearly the general manager. Tessa and I exchanged a quick look, both surprised.

The next moment, the general manager walked straight up to the lobby manager and slapped him across the face, hard.

“You’re done here,” he said coldly.
