The moment we stepped inside, all three of them looked up. Zane was the first to react, already on his feet with an easy grin.
“Perfect timing,” he said. “Come on in.”
Kade stayed seated, but something in his expression softened slightly when he looked at me.
He gave a small nod, then spoke to the manager behind us. “Go ahead and bring everything in.”
“Yes, sir.”
The manager left without another word.
Tessa moved quickly, taking the seat next to Zane, suddenly far more composed than usual. Derrick sat beside her.
I didn’t hesitate. I walked straight over and took the empty seat next to Kade.
Across the table, Tessa snuck a quick glance in his direction before looking down again, her posture noticeably tighter than before.
“Nira,” Zane said, leaning back in his chair, “you’ve been impossible to reach lately. I’ve been stuck queueing alone.”
“I’ve had classes,” I replied, taking a sip of water.
And even outside of that, I had Silvermoon Pack matters and my own priorities to deal with.
Gaming wasn’t exactly high on the list.
“Yeah, well,” Zane said, waving it off, “you’re playing after this. No excuses.”
Tessa leaned forward, curious. “What are you playing?”
“PUBG Mobile,” he said.
Her eyes lit up instantly. “I’m in.”
Zane didn’t even try to hide his reaction.

“You?” he said, giving her a look. “Last time I carried you so hard I almost lost MVP. I spent the whole match pulling you out of bad spots. And our ranks don’t even match.”
Tessa frowned, clearly offended.
“It’s fine.” I said before she could argue, “I’ll help you rank up.”
That fixed it immediately.
“I knew I could count on you,” she said, grinning.
By then, the food had started coming in. Kade picked up his glass and lightly tapped it against mine.
“Congratulations,” he said.
I arched a brow at him and waited for him to continue.
A faint smile touched his lips. “First place in the special evaluation.”
I held his gaze, my eyes catching on the faint, almost teasing curve at the corner of his lips, and felt my heartbeat skip before I could stop it.
Tessa had always said I looked good when I smiled, but if I was being honest, Kade’s smile was the kind that actually got under your skin, the kind you didn’t forget.
“Thanks,” I said, blinking once to steady myself, my tone even. “You had a hand in this too.”
Kade just smiled without saying anything. He gestured lightly toward the dish the server had just set down in front of me, something plated with the kind of precision you only saw in high–end places. “Try this,” he said, his voice low and smooth, carrying easily in the private room. “It’s their signature.”
I picked up my knife and fork and cut into the meat. The outer layer had just the right amount of bite, giving way easily, and the moment it hit my tongue, it practically melted. The inside was tender and saturated with a rich, slow–cooked flavor that lingered in the best way. It was, without question, excellent.
For the rest of the meal, I kept mostly to myself, eating quietly while half–listening to the conversation around me. Kade and the others were discussing plans, what he intended to do once he formally stepped into his position as alpha king and how he would handle different packs moving forward.
When I heard him mention that one of his priorities would be to investigate the mysterious Silvermoon Pack, my hand paused for just a fraction of a second with the fork still in it. Then

I resumed as if nothing had happened, keeping my expression neutral.
I acted like I hadn’t heard a thing.

By the time we finished eating, Zane wiped his mouth and immediately reached for his phone, clearly eager to rope me into a game.
Before he could say anything, Kade shifted slightly closer to me, his voice dropping into something quieter, almost casual. “There’s a bowling alley right behind the restaurant. Want to check it out?”
I glanced at him, then nodded without hesitation. “Sure. Just so you know, I’ve never played.”
“That’s fine,” he said with an easy smile. “I’ll show you.”
Zane perked up instantly, abandoning his phone as he leaned in. “Bowling? Count me in. I’m actually really good, so you’re about to be impressed.”
Tessa rolled her eyes so hard it was almost impressive. “Oh please. I still remember when you took me to throw balls as a kid. You missed, what, eight out of ten? Your definition of ‘really good‘ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. What are you aiming for tonight, a perfect record of zero wins?”
Zane reached over and flicked her on the head. “That was years ago. People improve, you know. I’m not the same guy anymore. Just watch, I’ll show you how it’s done.”
We headed toward the bowling alley together, joking the whole way.
We hadn’t even fully walked in when a voice rang out from inside.
