Chapter 85 On the Edge

Nira’s POV:

The second I said that, the entire room went dead quiet. Every single person turned to look at me.

The attending doctor frowned hard, his wolf eyes flashing with irritation. “Who are you supposed to be? Don’t interfere. We know what we’re doing. Do you?”

One of the patient’s family members stepped forward, clearly furious, his fangs showing as he snapped, “Where did you come from? You don’t even have a wolf, and you’re in here running your mouth? If something happens to my dad because of you, are you going to take responsibility?”

I walked straight in anyway, steady and composed. “I’m a doctor. And I know exactly what I’m doing. This isn’t a standard heart condition. It’s a variant cardiomyopathy. The pathology is different, which means your current treatment isn’t helping. In fact, stimulants are making it worse.”

I glanced at the patient, then back at them. “Her wolf spirit is already drained. Without that protection, and with the stimulants you’ve been giving her, she won’t last much longer.”

The attending doctor let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “You? A doctor? You don’t even have a wolf, and you think you can walk in here and play hero? You’re wasting critical time. Push it any further and I won’t hesitate to shift and throw you out myself. Get out.”

I didn’t bother arguing. I pulled out my kit and said, “There’s no time. Let me do this.”

Before anyone could stop me, I moved to the bedside, drew up the first syringe, and inserted the needle at the crown of her head.

The second the injection went in, the monitor spiked violently. A harsh alarm filled the room.

“What are you doing? Stop!” someone shouted, panic breaking through.

They tried to rush me, but the attending doctor suddenly blocked them. “Don’t touch her. That’s a critical point. If you interrupt her now, she’s dead.”

The man froze instantly, his face turning pale as he backed off.

I kept my hand steady and finished the first injection. Slowly, the erratic rhythm on the monitor began to settle.

Then I prepared the second shot.

This one had to go in near the heart. Even a slight mistake could make things spiral.

The room went completely still. No one moved. No one spoke. Every eye was locked on my hands.

Sweat slid down my temple as I focused, pulling on Lyra’s energy to stabilize my control. I adjusted the angle, controlled the pressure, and carefully delivered the second injection.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then her breathing started to even out.

The alarm cut off.

Right then, the door slammed open. Two men rushed in, one older, one middle–aged. The moment they stepped inside, I could tell from their presence alone, both were high–ranking purebloods.

The older man froze when he saw the syringe in my hand and the black compound inside it. His pupils tightened.

“Wait… that can’t be…” His voice shook with excitement. “That’s the experimental life–saving compound developed by the top physicians in our world, isn’t it?”

He stepped closer, almost in disbelief. “Two–stage injection, first at the crown, then near the heart. It’s supposed to stabilize any critical patient instantly…”

Everyone in the room went still again, glancing between him and me.

The attending doctor’s tone flipped completely. “Director, are you saying that’s actually-”
