Chapter 84 Not Yours Anymore

Aven looked like he couldn’t process what he’d just heard.

I can’t believe they actually invited Nira, a girl without a wolf, and passed over me, the heir to Blazeborn Pack, like I’m nothing.

The shift on his face was instant. The easy politeness disappeared, replaced by disbelief so obvious it almost felt tangible. His gaze snapped to Holden, sharp and pressing.

“What exactly is that supposed to mean?” he demanded. “I’ve been the one attending every year. Why the sudden change?”

His voice rose despite himself, the anger underneath impossible to hide.

Holden didn’t seem the least bit affected. If anything, he looked mildly impatient. “That decision came directly from the family head. I’m just here to deliver the invitation.”

Aven clearly wasn’t satisfied, but there was nothing he could push back on. No matter how angry he was, he couldn’t exactly march into the main estate and demand answers.

He took a slow breath, forcing himself to steady down. “Fine. Then who’s attending this

year?”

“Lucas, Colette, and Nira,” Holden replied without hesitation.

The moment Lucas’s name landed, something in Aven’s expression darkened further.

Lucas only gets through graduation because his family buys it for him, everyone knows he spends his days drifting around doing nothing that matters, and now he’s the one replacing me at one of the biggest events of the year?

Nira stood off to the side without saying a word. When she heard that, she glanced down at the invitation in her hand, her lashes lowering just enough to hide whatever was in her eyes.

Janice watched her walk away, something bitter and sharp twisting in her chest. That invitation was something she had wanted for years and never gotten, and now Nira had it without even trying.

There was no way she was going to accept that.

She quickly stepped up beside Aven, her expression tightening as if she were just as outraged. Lowering her voice, she said, “Aven, what is going on? You’re the one who’s always gone. And now they hand it off to someone like Lucas?”

She let out a breath, softening her tone just slightly. “I mean, I guess it’s not all bad. At least someone from our side is still going. since Nira got invited.” She sighed, heavier this time. “It’s just… kind of ridiculous, isn’t it? The most qualified alpha heir doesn’t get to go. But I guess there are only so many spots.”

That was all it took.

Aven’s gaze dropped straight to the invitation in Nira’s hand, the conclusion forming instantly in his mind.

“It was her,” he said, his voice turning cold. “Nira took my spot”

His hand clenched into a fist, claws slipping out without him even noticing, the sharp edges catching the light. Veins stood out along the back of his hand as the tension built.

“I’m not letting this go,” he said flatly. “She really thinks she can just walk in there and own the room? Not happening.”

Janice’s eyes widened, her expression shifting into concern. “What are you going to do?” she asked quickly. “Aven, don’t do anything reckless. The Flores banquet isn’t something you can mess around with. If anything goes wrong, she’ll completely embarrass herself.”

As she spoke, she kept watching him closely, gauging every reaction.

Aven let out a cold scoff. “That’s exactly the point.”

A flicker of satisfaction flashed through Janice’s eyes before she masked it again. “I get why you’re upset, I really do. But we can’t just go head–on with this.”

She paused, like something had just occurred to her. “The banquet’s only a few days away. The family’s probably scrambling to get her dress and jewelry ready. If they don’t move fast, she won’t be ready in time.”

Aven’s lips curled slowly into a dark smile. “Yeah… they should definitely take their time getting her ready.”

Nira’s POV:

I didn’t head back to Howard Academy after leaving the Soren estate. Instead, I changed my appearance and went to the hospital.

I found the wife and child of the mixed–blood, low–rank werewolf delivery driver Nolan had accidentally killed. I treated them while I was there, making sure their condition stabilized.

By the time I was done and ready to leave, I passed by a hospital room that made me stop mid–step.
