Vivian happened to look over as well. Her face showed surprise at first, then her expression darkened.

Eloise was just about to ask what was going on when Lorelei hurried off toward where she’d parked her car.

Eloise didn’t bother to look at Vivian.

Once she got in the car, Eloise shot a glance at Lorelei in the back seat, her face was grim.

Eloise asked, “Do you know that woman from earlier?”

“No!” Lorelei snapped.

She was clearly agitated, practically grinding her teeth.

Eloise could tell Lorelei was lying, but she couldn’t be bothered to pry.

Eloise started the car without saying a word.

She dropped Lorelei off at home and drove away without another word.

After leaving the hospital, Vivian locked herself in her room and made a call. “Look into the relationship between Eloise and Lorelei for me.”

After hanging up, Vivian’s face was grim.

She never thought she’d see Lorelei again.

Lorelei was the person she despised most.

“Mom?”

Chloe opened the door and walked in. Seeing Vivian’s face, she paused in surprise. “Mom, what’s wrong?”

Vivian quickly composed herself. “It’s nothing.”

Some things were better kept from her daughter.

“Chloe, your dad and I have been talking. We think the youngest son of the Flynn family is a good match for you. He’s about your age, and he’s good-looking. How about I set you two up?”

Chloe shot back, “No way!”

“Chloe, don’t be so stubborn. As a member of our family, you can’t just marry whoever you want. I’ve done everything I can for you. The Flynn family’s youngest son is a solid choice. Honestly, you’d be lucky to marry

him,” Vivian said.

Chloe snapped, “I don’t want anyone but Grayson! I won’t marry anyone else!”

Actually, she used to be quite playful and hadn’t thought about marriage.

Of course, a man like Grayson had already caught her attention.

When she tried to flirt with him at a party and he totally ignored her, it stung a little, but she just brushed it off.

Back then, she was dating a guy with nothing special background, decent looks, and he was always down to have fun and spoil her.

After that, she cycled through a few more boyfriends, just living it up and having a blast.

So she just stopped caring about chasing after Grayson.

But lately, her family had been pushing her to settle down, trying to arrange a match and telling her to break things off with all those guys. That’s when she finally started to get serious.

She was totally against it at first, but once she heard they wanted to set her up with someone from the Pierce family, she quickly cut ties with all her boyfriends.

Vivian sighed, rubbing her temples. “It’s not happening with the Pierce family. Your dad said Grayson and Leo won’t budge. We’re just wasting our energy if they’re not on board.”

Chloe shot back, “I don’t care! I’m only marrying Grayson. I won’t marry anyone else!”

“Chloe, don’t be so stubborn. The company’s in trouble right now, and as part of our family, you have a duty to help out. Every girl in our social circle is married off for family alliances. That’s just the way it works,” Vivian said.

Harper couldn’t stand to listen anymore. She slammed the door and stormed out.

Vivian shook her head helplessly.

They had pampered their daughter too much. Now Chloe was just reckless and stubborn.

Eloise had just gotten home when her phone rang. It was Grayson.

“Baby, have you eaten yet?” Grayson asked.

Eloise was used to him calling her “baby” now. Every time he said it, she felt like she was being doted on.

She couldn’t help but smile. “Just got home. I’m about to start cooking.”

Grayson glanced at the clock. “Where were you this morning?”

“I went with my mom to the hospital for a check-up,” Eloise replied.

“Is everything okay?” Grayson asked.

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious. Just a minor issue,” Eloise said.

Grayson wasn’t actually concerned about Lorelei. He just didn’t want Eloise to end up stressing out if Lorelei had any issues.

“Let me order you some takeout. Don’t bother cooking,” Grayson said.

“No need, I’m fast. I’ll just whip up something simple,” Eloise replied.

She was home alone, so cooking for herself was no big deal.

“Don’t bother ordering. I prefer eating my own cooking,” Eloise said.

Grayson knew her well enough not to push it.

“Alright, go ahead and eat something. My second uncle is back, so we’re all having dinner at Pierce Manor tonight,” Grayson said.

“Your uncle?” Eloise asked.

“Yeah, I told you about him, right? His name is Tripp Pierce. He’s a photographer. He was in Averoca for a shoot and just got back,” Grayson explained.

“Got it. I’ll pick up Noah this afternoon, then swing by to get you from work, and we’ll head over together,” Eloise said.

Now that Noah wasn’t staying for after-school care, he got out early. With other people around, it’d feel weird for just her and Noah to arrive first. Going together with Grayson made things a lot less awkward.

Grayson couldn’t help but smile, clearly in a good mood. “Alright, I’ll be waiting for you.”

*****

Just before five o’clock, Grayson was about to head out.

Finn stepped in front of him. “Mr. Pierce, there are still a few documents waiting for your signature.”

Grayson waved him off and strode straight to the elevator. “Let’s handle it tomorrow. Eloise is coming to pick me up. She’ll be here any minute.”

Finn was speechless.

Eloise saw Grayson outside the office building, talking on the phone. As soon as he spotted her car, he quickly hung up.

Grayson hopped into the passenger seat, grinning like a groom on his wedding day.

Eloise gave him a suspicious look. “What are you up to?”

Grayson turned to her with an innocent look. “Nothing.”

Noah piped up, “Dad, did you win the lottery or something?”

Juliette always said that, so Noah started saying it too.

Grayson shot him a casual look. “Come on, you’re my son. You should aim higher. The lottery? Please, that’s pocket change to me.”

Noah didn’t get it. He thought winning the lottery meant getting a ton of money.

“Dad, are you super rich?” Noah asked, eyes wide.
