Chapter 159

Eloise stayed silent, her expression unchanged.

Harvey couldn’t figure out what she was thinking, so he continued, “If I’d known your mom was so heartless, I would’ve taken you in myself. I wouldn’t have let you suffer like that.”

Eloise glanced up at him.

“Really? You would’ve raised me? Would your wife have agreed to that?” Eloise asked.

Harvey’s eyes flickered. “I would’ve convinced her.”

Eloise let out a cold laugh. “Don’t bother with your fake concern now. I’m not some three-year-old who’ll tag along just because you hand me a piece of candy. Maybe a kid would buy that.”

Harvey was left speechless.

He’d been talking until his throat was dry, but Eloise didn’t take in a single word. There wasn’t even a hint of emotion on her face.

“Eloise, I’m your father. I really do care about you. You have to believe me,” he said.

Eloise looked him straight in the eye. “Cut the act. You’re making me sick. Just be straight with me. What do you want?”

Harvey had known about Eloise for years, but he never bothered to look for her, not once.

He’d pretty much erased her from his memory. It wasn’t that he didn’t know she existed. He just completely forgot about her.

Now he suddenly showed up. There had to be a reason for that.

After Eloise stopped hoping for anything from her parents, everything became crystal clear. She could see right through it all.

This man who just popped up out of nowhere had zero love for her. It was obvious he was here with an agenda.

Now that Eloise had seen right through him, Harvey dropped the act.

“I heard Crayson is really into you. He gave you that huge mansion without a second thought. And the Pierce family seem to really approve of you,” Harvey said.

“Looks like you finally got your happy ending and are living the good life. I’m really glad for you,” he added.

Eloise stayed silent, waiting for him to get to the point.

Harvey cleared his throat, finally getting to what he really wanted.

“My company’s got a real estate project, but we’re hitting a snag with the funding. Put in a word with Grayson and get him to invest,” he said.

Eloise let out a cold laugh. “You really think I’d help you?”

Harvey said, “If you can get Grayson to invest, I’ll give you a one percent share in Carter Group.”

“One percent? Are you trying to buy me off with pocket change?” Eloise shot back.

Harvey gritted his teeth. “Two percent, that’s the most I can offer. And even for that, I’ll have to clear it with my wife first.”

Eloise replied, “Don’t bother. I’m not interested in Carter Group shares.”

Harvey said, “Two percent of Carter Group is already a lot. Don’t think marrying Grayson means you’ll be rolling in cash and set for life.”

“All those wealthy families make their wives sign prenups. Their money won’t ever be yours. With these two percent shares, at least you’ll have some security in the Pierce family,” he added.

Eloise shot back, “Mr. Carter, I’ve been just fine without you for over twenty years. Now you suddenly show up, talking about giving me ‘security,’ trying to get me to do your bidding with some shares you might not even deliver. Tell me, who’s the real fool here. Me or you?”

Harvey was getting a headache from this.

His daughter was impossible to deal with.

“Eloise, Grayson’s spoiling you now, but you really don’t get how important it is to have a strong family backing you up. The day Grayson gets bored of you and goes off chasing other women, you’ll wish you your own family to rely on,” Harvey said.

“Oh, really? Mr. Carter, you seem to know me so well. Are you saying I’ll be the one running around cheating in the future?”

A tall figure walked in, casting a broad shadow across the room. His cold, forbidding expression made the air feel icy.

Eloise blinked in surprise for a couple seconds, then stood up and walked toward him. “I thought you said you wouldn’t be back for another two days. Why are you here already?”

Grayson took her hand and pulled her to his side, his gaze icy as he looked at Harvey. “If I hadn’t come back, how would I know someone was here trying to mess with my girlfriend?”

Harvey’s face showed clear embarrassment.

“Grayson, you misunderstood me. I was just going along with the conversation,” he tried to explain.

“Harvey, my ears work just fine and my brain’s not broken. I can tell good words from bad. I haven’t even married Eloise yet, and you’re already trash-talking me behind my back. Are you trying to ruin my chances before I even get married?” Grayson retorted.

Harvey said, “Come on, I only want the best for you. Since you’re back, let me share some good news. Eloise is my daughter. After all the twists and turns, you still ended up as my son-in-law.”

For the first time ever, Grayson found himself seriously annoyed by the word “son-in-law.”

He shot Eloise a look, then turned to Harvey and said, “Harvey, you must be mistaken. Eloise’s dad passed away ages ago. She’s never even known what a father looks like. Just because Eloise is gorgeous and cute doesn’t mean you get to suddenly call her your daughter.”

Eloise fell silent.

‘God, I adore Grayson’s mouth. He’s just too good at this!’ Eloise thought, feeling a rush of admiration.

Harvey’s face turned pale. Honestly, it was priceless.

He stammered awkwardly, “I really am Eloise’s father. Back then, things got a little messy between me and her mom, so we split up.”

Eloise shot back, “Mr. Carter, you sure know how to sugarcoat things. Let’s be real. Your wife caught you cheating, and you had to break things off with my mom, your mistress.”

Harvey was left speechless.

Grayson was also at a loss for words.

Eloise went on the offensive, not caring who got caught in the crossfire.

Harvey gave another awkward smile.

Even though Eloise’s words were harsh, she indirectly acknowledged he was her father.

Now he could negotiate with Grayson.

“Grayson, I know I screwed up when I was younger, but honestly, I’m grateful to have Eloise as my daughter. Bet you’re feeling pretty lucky too, huh?”

Grayson just snorted, saying nothing.

He’d never seen Harvey stoop this low before.

Harvey could tell Grayson wasn’t pleased, but thick-skinned as ever, he kept pushing for his company’s sake.

“I know

you like Eloise, and you two even have a son together. Marriage is just a matter of time. Let me talk to your father about your wedding plans. We’ve got to make it a grand affair.”

Eloise couldn’t help but be impressed. Harvey’s shamelessness was truly unmatched.

‘Seriously, how is he this shameless the very first time we meet?’ Eloise thought, honestly stunned.
