Grayson Pierce and Eloise Caldwell novel Chapter 162

Chapter 162 Someone I Can’t Stand

Eloise had just picked up Noah and was about to get in the car when a man in a suit stepped in front of them, blocking their way.

“Ms. Caldwell, Mr. Carter wants to see you. Could you come over for a moment?” the man said.

Eloise followed his gaze and saw Harvey lowering his car window, looking at her.

Eloise gave a sarcastic smile. “Why should I go just because he says so? Who does he think he is?”

Harvey’s secretary was left speechless.

He had no clue Eloise was Harvey’s daughter. He just thought she was pretty feisty.

Eloise pushed the guy out of the way, got Noah in the car, and hit the gas, speeding off.

Harvey was left speechless.

His secretary walked over. “Mr. Harvey, what should we do?”

Harvey waved him off. “Just get in the car.”

Noah asked, “Mom, who was that guy in the car?”

Eloise didn’t want Noah to know about her complicated past.

“Just someone I really don’t like. If he ever tries to talk to you, just ignore him,” Eloise said.

Noah didn’t really understand, but he nodded anyway.

‘Mom almost never hates anyone. That guy must’ve really made her mad. Anyone who upsets Mom, I don’t like them either,’ Noah thought.

Lorelei’s expression darkened the moment she saw Harvey at the door.

“What do you want?” she demanded.

Harvey greeted her, “Lorelei, long time no see.”

Lorelei scoffed. “I almost didn’t recognize you. You’ve gotten so old.”

Harvey was speechless.

After a brief pause, Harvey said, “Looks like you haven’t changed at all.”

Lorelei was clearly pleased by that, and her tone lost some of its edge.

“How do you even know where I live?” she demanded.

“Finding out where someone lives isn’t exactly hard for me. I came because there’s something I need to discuss with you,” Harvey replied.

Lorelei shot back, “What is there for us to talk about?”

Harvey said, “Can I come in? It’s awkward talking in the doorway.”

Lorelei stepped aside, letting him in.

Harvey gave the room a once-over. “Seriously, why are you living in such a dump? Did you blow through all the money I gave you?”

Lorelei didn’t say a word.

Back when she agreed to leave Ekloland, Harvey had given her 1.5 million dollars.

She’d moved back to her hometown, Ucrevine, and settled into her family house.

She hadn’t worked in years, and after getting used to a comfortable life, she had no intention of getting a job. She just kept spending down her savings..

got married, the bride price cost one hundred thousand dollars, and buying and renovating the new house set her back over one million dollars.

What made him angry was that his son and daughter-in-law got divorced and were fighting over the property.

Her son was way too trusting. He went and sold their house, then handed over half the money without a second thought.

At the time, Lorelei was laid up in the hospital, completely in the dark about what was happening at home. If she’d been around, she would’ve fought tooth and nail to keep that woman from taking a single cent from their family.

Later, she confronted her ex-daughter-in-law a few times, but it didn’t help. Even when the police came, they didn’t support her. Her son also told her to let it go, saying he had willingly given it to his ex-wife.

She was so furious that she nearly blew a gasket.

The house had shot up in value over the years. They bought it for less than one million dollars, but ended up selling it for over 1.5 million dollars.

Her son gave her whatever was left after the split.

Now she had just over one million dollars in her hands, but she didn’t dare splurge.

Her son was divorced, and he’d have to find a new wife someday.

She needed to hang onto that money for when he got married again and needed a new place.

Houses in Ekloland were way more expensive than in Ucrevine. Her savings would probably only cover the down payment.

But there was no way she was going to admit that to Harvey.

“It’s all gone,” she said.

Harvey snapped, “So you spent it all on your son, huh? I gave you 1.5 million dollars to raise our daughter, and instead you neglected Eloise and blew it all on your son. That’s way out of line!”

Lorelei paused, surprised. “You met her? Did she say something to you?”

Harvey replied, “Yeah, I saw her, but she didn’t tell me anything. I’ve already found out how you’ve treated Eloise all these years.”

Lorelei gave a cold laugh, acting like she hadn’t done anything wrong.

“So what if you know? You gave me the money. Why should you care how I spend it?” she shot back.

Harvey snapped, “Eloise is your daughter too. How could you be so heartless to her?”

Lorelei shot back, “You didn’t want her, so why do you care now? Harvey, you’ve got no right to judge me. If you really cared about her, where have you been for the past twenty years? Why didn’t you take her away?”

“I didn’t even abandon her, so what gives you the right to point fingers at me?”

“Let me tell you, you’re the last person who should be lecturing me. If you hadn’t chased after me back then, would I have ever gotten involved with you? Would I have ended up pregnant?”

Harvey was at a loss for words. “We were together because we both wanted to…”

“Oh, please! You were the one chasing after me,” Lorelei snapped.

“Okay, okay, let’s not dig up the past. I’m not here to point fingers,” Harvey said.

Lorelei shot him a glare..

It’s like saying: “Sure, I don’t buy it.”

Harvey cleared his throat. “I’m not here to argue with you.”

Lorelei scoffed, “So what, you came here just to catch up?”

Harvey paused. “I wanted to have dinner with Eloise, but she wouldn’t even agree.”

Lorelei snorted, “So you want me to help you out?”

“Yeah,” Harvey replied.

“Why would I help you?” Lorelei retorted.

“I’m not even making a fuss about you spending all the money I gave you on your son. Just help me set up a meeting with Eloise,” Harvey said.

Lorelei replied, “Even if I ask her, she might not show up. That stubborn girl barely even talks to me anymore.”

Harvey shot back, “Can you blame her? You hurt her so much.”

Lorelei’s face darkened.

Harvey quickly changed his tune. “Come on, you’re her mother. She won’t say no to you. If you ask, she’ll show up.”

Finally, Lorelei grabbed her phone and dialed Eloise.

She rarely ever called Eloise, so it took her a while to even find Eloise’s number in her contacts.

Eloise was in the kitchen, prepping veggies, when her phone rang. She pulled it out of her pocket.

She glanced at the caller ID.

She paused, caught off guard.

‘Lorelei’s calling me?’ Eloise thought, genuinely surprised.

Without thinking, she glanced outside.
