Chapter 170 I’ve Got Your Back

Eloise stood up, her eyes wide with surprise. “Hannah, what are you all doing here?”

Hannah shot Lorelei a fierce glare. “I heard someone was trying to mess with you, so I came to stand up for you.”

Eloise’s eyes grew misty with emotion.

She wasn’t the same Eloise who used to long for her mother’s love. Nothing Lorelei did or said could hurt her anymore.

In fact, ever since she cut ties with her family, her mouth had become razor-sharp, and she could shut Lorelei down so fast it made her fume.

But with the Pierce family backing her up, it felt so good to be cared for and protected like this.

“Come, sit down, Hannah,” Eloise said.

She headed over and gently helped Hannah settle into her seat.

Hannah stared straight at Lorelei. “So, you’re Lorelei, the infamous cold-hearted mom of Eloise?”

Lorelei shot Eloise a glare.

‘That little brat, always spreading rumors about me wherever she goes, Lorelei thought.

Since it was Hannah, Lorelei forced a polite smile. “You must be kidding, Mrs. Pierce. If I were really cold- hearted, would Eloise have turned out so well and beautiful?”

Hannah scoffed. “Eloise is who she is today because she’s strong and independent. If it were anyone else, who knows how they’d have turned out? What right is someone as cold and selfish as you have to try and make yourself look good off her success?”

Lorelei’s face darkened. “Mrs. Pierce, that’s out of line. How I raise my daughter is my own business.”

Hannah shot back, “I’m just standing up for my future granddaughter-in-law. What’s it to you?”

Lorelei was left speechless.

After a pause, she said, “Your grandson wants to marry Eloise, so we’re family now. There’s no need to make things ugly between us. I am still her mother, after all.”

“Mother? Are you even worthy of that title? I’m a mother myself, and people like you disgrace the very word’ mother,” Hannah retorted.

Lorelei was simmering with frustration.

‘I can’t believe these Pierce folks. Why do they keep dredging up past history?’ she thought.

Lorelei opened her mouth to say more, but Bobby pulled her back.

Bobby knew his mother didn’t stand a chance arguing with the Pierces. Keeping quiet was the smartest play.

Seeing Lorelei go quiet, Hannah turned to Vivian and Chloe. “And what are you two doing here?”

Joslyn started rambling, telling Hannah all about how Grayson had snatched the Carters project, and how Vivian and Lorelei had tried to force Eloise to call Grayson and get it back.

After hearing everything, Hannah said, “I was the one who told Grayson to take the Carters project. I did it to get back at them for what they did to Eloise.”

Vivian and Chloe were left speechless.

Chloe finally snapped. “Hannah, have you lost your mind? Eloise is just some illegitimate kid. She never should’ve existed in the first place. The Carter family never did anything to her, so what kind of revenge are you talking about?”

“Honestly, you’re the real mistake here. People as clueless as you shouldn’t have even been born,” Christina added coldly.

Chloe was about to argue with Christina, but Vivian quickly held him back.

Vivian turned to the Pierce family. “Honestly, my kid and I are the real victims here. Eloise and her mother wrecked my family, and I’ve already gone above and beyond by not making them pay for it. Now you’re here, trying to get revenge for her? Revenge for what? The Carter family never did anything wrong to her!”

“Mrs. Pierce, you’ve always been fair-minded. Can’t you see how unfair this is for me?” Vivian said, sounding aggrieved.

Hannah replied, “Your troubles were all caused by Harvey and Lorelei. If you want to blame someone, blame them. Eloise had nothing to do with it. She’s not the one you should be angry at.”

“Eloise is a victim too. Those two brought her into this world, but never once acted like real parents.”

“And now, Harvey’s still scheming to use Eloise for his own benefit. If he’s willing to pull that kind of stunt, then don’t blame the Pierce family for stepping in.”

Vivian’s expression soured. “Mrs. Pierce, that’s just not fair!”

Hannah shot back, “So sue me.”

Vivian was left speechless.

Vivian was out of options with the Pierce family, so she shot Lorelei a nasty glare. “Aren’t you going to do something about your daughter?”

Her gaze was downright threatening.

Lorelei gritted her teeth and, with a thud, dropped to her knees. “Eloise, I’m begging you here. Please, just ask Grayson to give the project back to the Carter family.”

“Mom!” Bobby rushed over, panic written all over his face, trying to pull her up.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

Lorelei shoved him aside. “Stay out of this. Just let me kneel to her.”

Eloise stared in shock for a couple seconds before it hit her. She knew exactly what was going on.

The only thing that could make Lorelei drop to her knees like this was Bobby. For her eldest son, she’d swallow her pride and do anything.

She really would do anything for Bobby,

Bobby whipped around, eyes blazing as he glared at Eloise. “You’ve crossed the line! I always thought you were a decent person, but now I see the truth. You’re heartless. People like you don’t deserve happiness.”

Eloise let out a cold laugh.

‘Figures, he’s trying to mess with my head again,’ she thought.

“Hate to break it to you, Bobby, but I’m definitely going to be happy. You, on the other hand, a divorced guy? Odds are, happiness isn’t in your cards,” Eloise shot back.

“Eloise, quit messing around and get Mom off her knees. By letting your own mother kneel to you, aren’t you worried it’ll jinx you or something?” Bobby snapped.

“Bobby, I didn’t make her kneel. She did it herself. And I’m not scared of any curse. With all these people watching, I’ll just pretend she’s kneeling to Hannah instead, Eloise shot back.

“Eloise! Can’t you just say yes to her?” Bobby pleaded, his voice full of frustration.

“Say what?” Grayson strode in, tall and imposing, his face cold as ice like he was ready to take on anyone who crossed him.

Eloise looked up at him, her eyes lighting up instantly.

‘Grayson’s here too?’ she was surprised.
