Grayson’s masculine scent washed over Eloise, making her heart race. Her eyes widened. Their gazes locked, and the air between them charged with desire.

Grayson’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he slowly leaned in, his eyes fixed on her lips. Just as he was about to touch them, Eloise turned her head away.

Grayson froze. The air grew a bit awkward, the tension shifting between them.

Eloise tried to get off his lap, but the hand at her waist tightened. “Grayson, let go,” she said.

“I’m not letting go. If you won’t let me kiss you, at least let me hold you for a while,” Grayson murmured, sounding a little sulky. Then he leaned in, resting his head on her shoulder and holding her tight.

Eloise shivered, her whole body tingling and her face burning up. Even without a mirror, she could picture just how flushed she must look.

“Eloise, just let me hold you for a bit, okay? Just a little while,” Grayson murmured, his voice soft and a little pitiful.

Eloise closed her eyes and stopped fighting him. No matter if Grayson was being genuine or just putting on an act, she couldn’t bring herself to push him away. She let herself get swept up in the moment, just for now.

Camille arrived on the 22nd floor. “I’m here to see Mr. Pierce,” she said.

The assistant hesitated, looking uncomfortable. “Someone’s with him right now.”

“Who’s in there?” Camille asked.

“It’s Ms. Caldwell, a secretary from Hayes Group,” the assistant replied.

Upon hearing that the person in Grayson’s office was just a secretary, Camille gave a dismissive scoff and kept walking.

The assistant didn’t dare stop her too forcefully. Word was, Camille, who’d just joined the company, had a special connection with Grayson.

Just as Camille was about to knock, Finn rushed over and blocked her way. “Ms. Hopkins, Mr. Pierce isn’t available right now,” Finn said.

Camille narrowed her eyes. A sudden thought hit her. ‘Not available, huh? Wait, is she the girl Grayson’s been chasing after?” she thought.

Her mind was in turmoil, but her expression stayed calm. Smiling, she said, “Finn, I need to see Mr. Pierce. I heard Ms. Caldwell is in there. I’ll just say my piece and leave. I won’t stay for long.”

Finn shook his head. “Sorry, but I can’t let you in. Mr. Pierce said he doesn’t want to be disturbed. Ms. Hopkins, please leave.”

Camille didn’t dare barge in. She’d created the illusion for everyone at the company that she and Grayson had something special.

Some people even saw her as his first love. She knew all about the gossip, but never bothered to deny it.

But in reality, Grayson was always distant. If not for that one time she saved him, he wouldn’t even give her the time of day. Finn knew this too and treated her just as coolly.

Knowing she wasn’t getting in today, Camille bit back her frustration and turned away from the 22nd floor.

Eloise gave Grayson a gentle push. “You can let go now.” Her voice wasn’t sharp like before. It was gentle and tender.

That gentle tone instantly pulled Grayson back five years. Back then, he’d be lying right beside her in bed, refusing to get up, and Eloise would nudge him gently and murmur, “Grayson, time to get up.”

It never worked. This time was no different. He only held her tighter.

Eloise pushed him harder. “Grayson…”

Grayson finally let go, but his eyes stayed locked on her, intense and hungry, like he wanted to devour her whole.

Eloise flusteredly got off him, picked up her bag, and said, “I’m leaving.”

This time, Grayson didn’t try to stop her.

Eloise knew perfectly well he hadn’t really had anything work-related to discuss. This had all been an excuse.

Finn personally escorted Eloise to Grayson’s private elevator.

When the doors opened on the first floor, Eloise walked out and immediately spotted Camille. She hadn’t expected to see Camille there.

Camille looked right at Eloise. Now, she was certain that Eloise was the woman Grayson was chasing. Eloise had just come down in his private elevator, the one Camille herself had never even been allowed to use.

Eloise caught Camille giving her a strange look, but didn’t pay it any mind. She headed straight for the exit.

Unable to help herself, Camille followed. At the entrance, she suddenly spotted Hannah. She’d been planning to warn Eloise, but with Hannah here, she had other priorities.

Camille flashed a smile and walked over to Hannah. “Mrs. Pierce what brings you here?”

Hannah gave Camille a sharp look. “Do I need to tell you when I come to the Pierce family’s company?”

Camille forced an awkward smile. “Of course not, I was just surprised to see you here.”

Hannah said, “Weren’t you abroad? What are you doing back here?”

Camille answered, “I just graduated, and now I’m working at VirtuFusion.”

Hannah narrowed her eyes, giving Camille a long, cool look. Even though Camille had once saved her grandson, she never really liked Camille.

Suddenly, Hannah’s gaze caught on a slender figure ahead, and her face instantly brightened. Without a second thought, she pushed past Camille and hurried forward.

Despite being nearly eighty, Hannah was still strong as ever. Caille nearly lost her balance from the push.

Hannah ran after Eloise. “Wait, Grayson’s girlfriend. Wait for me she shouted.

Eloise froze and then turned around. She saw Hannah rushing toward her and a car approaching from the side. Without thinking, she ran over and pulled Hannah aside.

“Mrs. Pierce, a car just passed. That was dangerous,” Eloise said, lier voice full of worry.

Hannah grabbed Eloise’s hand. “It’s fine, we’re right at the company entrance. Nobody drives fast here.”

“Still, what if they don’t see you and hit you?” Eloise insisted.

Hannah looked at Eloise with growing fondness, especially when she heard how much Eloise cared. A wide smile spread across her face.

“Alright, I’ll be careful next time,” Hannah said, sounding doting Did you come to see my grandson?”

Eloise’s cheeks turned bright red. “Mrs. Pierce, it’s not like that between me and Grayson.”

Hannah grinned. “I know. That rascal Grayson must’ve done something to upset you. Don’t worry, I’ll set him straight for you.”
