Chapter 61 Make Her Lose All Hope
Camille sized Eloise up. ‘She really is gorgeous. And her skin looks amazing. But whatever. I had my eye on Grayson first. No one gets to fight me for him’, she thought.
“Ms. Caldwell, you said you don’t really know me. Let me tell you about me and Grayson,” Camille said.
Eloise stayed silent, waiting for Camille to go on.
Camille gave a mental scoff. ‘Eloise is really unflappable. Fine, I’ll just crush her hopes completely.
She took a sip of her coffee and smiled. “I met Grayson three years ago. He was working at the Oniohull branch, and it just so happened I was there too.
“I didn’t even know he was a Pierce at the time. Later on, Grayson got injured, and I was the one who helped him out.”
Eloise felt a pang in her chest. “Why did he get hurt?”
Camille replied, “He got jumped.”
“Was it bad?” Eloise asked.
“He blacked out and needed seven stitches at the hospital,” Camille said.
Eloise’s fingers turned pale as she gripped her coffee cup. She had no idea something like that had ever happened to Grayson.
Camille went on, “Grayson and I hit it off right away. We were always grabbing meals together, going out, and having fun.
“It didn’t take long before we started dating. He made it possible for me to study abroad. Even though we were apart for two years, we never lost touch. We were always calling each other.
“Now that I’ve finished my studies and come back, I finally don’t have to be apart from Grayson anymore.”
Eloise lowered her head, took a quick sip of her coffee, and forced herself to swallow the pain rising inside.
Grayson, you lying jerk. You told me there was nothing going on between you and Camille,’ Eloise thought.’ And what does Camille want with me, anyway? Could she have found out about me and Grayson?’
With a cold smirk, Camille watched Eloise closely. “Men are always so easily tempted, I get it. Grayson may have been a little interested in you, Ms. Caldwell, but now that I’m back, I expect you to stay away from my boyfriend.
“I’ll let the past slide, but from now on, I don’t want you anywhere near him.”
Eloise’s face flushed with anger and humiliation. Grayson was the one who kept seeking her out, even though there was nothing going on between them.
“Ms. Hopkins, I’m not the one chasing after Mr. Pierce. If he’s your boyfriend, then maybe you should keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn’t come after me again,” Eloise retorted, her voice cold.
Camille clenched her jaw, her eyes growing cold and vicious. “Ms. Caldwell, you’re just a secretary at Hayes Group. Who do you think you are, acting like Grayson is chasing after you? Honestly, it’s hilarious.
“Don’t try to get smart with me. I see right through your little games: stringing Grayson along, making him run after you, just so you can keep him hooked and craving more.
“Cut out these little tricks. If I catch you at it again, next time things won’t be so civil.”
With that warning, Camille turned on her heel and walked away, her head held high.
Eloise was seething, but all she could do was swallow her frustration.
Beckett walked into the office and noticed Eloise’s desk was empty. Just as he was about to ask the assistants, Eloise walked in behind him. S

“Mr. Hayes,” Eloise said. She barely paused before heading straight to her desk and sitting down.
Beckett just pressed his lips, and headed into his office.
Near the end of the workday, Eloise got a call from Juliette. “Eloise, let’s go out for dinner tonight,” Juliette suggested.
Eloise was feeling all kinds of frustrated and really needed someone to vent to.
“Juliette, my car’s still in the shop and I haven’t gotten it back yet. Would you mind coming to pick me up later?” Eloise asked.
She’d texted Grayson yesterday about picking up her car, but he told her he was out of town on business and wouldn’t be back for another two days.
She’d even asked him for the address so she could just grab it herself, but he totally ghosted her.
“Sure thing, I’ll swing by and pick you up first, then we’ll go grab Noah,” Juliette replied.
As Eloise got in the car, Juliette shot her a look. “What’s the deal with your used car? Didn’t you just buy it? And it’s already giving you trouble?”
Eloise groaned, “Guess I got played. Should’ve known better than to go for the bargain. If it’s that cheap, there’ s gotta be something wrong with it.”
Juliette said, “Those crooked used car dealers. But at least you only spent 6,000 dollars on it. It could’ve been way worse.”
“I guess I just have to look on the bright side. This repair is probably going to cost a bit more, though,” Eloise said.
“I told you to just buy a new car, but you wouldn’t listen,” Juliette said.
“Juliette, I know. I regret it. Can you stop nagging me?” Eloise groaned. She turned to look out the window, her eyes distant and lost in thought.
Juliette asked, “What’s up?”
“Juliette, Grayson has a girlfriend. Her name’s Camille, and she showed up to talk to me today,” Eloise said quietly.
Juliette frowned. “Wait, I thought you said Grayson was single?”
“Turns out he lied to me. His girlfriend was studying abroad, and now she’s back, Eloise muttered.
“What a scumbag. He’s got a girlfriend and still tries messing around with you? Good thing you didn’t get involved, or you’d have ended up as the other woman without even realizing it.
“So why did his girlfriend come looking for you?” Juliette pressed.
Eloise dropped her head, letting her hair fall forward to hide her face. “She told me to keep my distance from Grayson,” she muttered.
“Why is she warning you when it’s Grayson who keeps chasing after you? If I’d been there, I would’ve roasted her so hard,” Juliette snapped.
Eloise stayed silent.
Juliette paused for a moment before saying, “Eloise, Grayson’s honestly nothing special. Just move on. I’ll hook you up with some hot guys.”
Eloise’s voice was soft, almost lost. “Juliette, I wish I could move on too.”
Grayson was the first, and only guy who ever made her heart race. All these years, she’d been obsessed with him, wishing for a chance to see him again, hoping they could get back together.
But when they finally met, who Grayson really was made her hesitate. She could see the distance between them so clearly, and it felt impossible to cross.
These days, Grayson kept popping up in her life, and Eloise was guarding her fragile heart, terrified she’d get
