Grayson Pierce and Eloise Caldwell novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67 Step Up Your Game

Ten minutes later, Camille stepped out of the little shop. Behind her glasses, her eyes flashed with a dangerous, ruthless glint.

Eloise got home and tossed the clothes that got splashed with coffee into the basin.

Noah walked over. “Mom, what happened?”

Noah realized his mom wasn’t wearing the same clothes she had on when she left that morning. He peeked into the basin and saw the clothes his mom wore this morning, now all stained up.

Eloise poured some detergent into the basin, filled it with water, and let the clothes soak. Only then did she turn to answer Noah’s question.

“I accidentally bumped into someone, and they were holding coffee. It spilled all over my clothes,” Eloise said. Noah didn’t doubt her for a second. He was still a kid, totally clueless about how harsh people could be.

Eloise pulled him into a hug for a moment before heading to the kitchen to cook. For dinner, she kept it simple: just two dishes and a soup for her and Noah.

Just as they were about to eat, someone knocked on the door. Eloise paused for a second. She could already guess who it was.

She walked over and opened the door. Sure enough, Grayson was standing outside.

He looked like he’d been running around all day, with two bags in tow.

The moment Grayson’s eyes landed on Eloise, they instantly blazed with intensity.

Eloise felt like she’d been scorched and quickly looked away.

Grayson smirked. “Did you miss me?”

Eloise ignored him and headed straight for the dining room.

Grayson didn’t push it. He was just messing with her.

He walked in, dropped the bags on the floor. “Hey, perfect timing. I showed up right when dinner’s ready,” he said with a grin.

Eloise shot back, “I didn’t know you were coming, so I didn’t make any for you.”

Grayson shrugged, “That’s on me, I should’ve called first. No worries, I’ll just grab a smaller bite.”

He ruffled Noah’s soft hair. “I brought you some toys.”

Noah’s eyes lit up.

In the end, Eloise went back to the kitchen and whipped up one more dish. They barely had enough to go around for the three of them.

After dinner, Grayson pushed one of the bags toward Eloise. “This is for you.”

Eloise didn’t take it. “I don’t want it.”

“At least check it out first,” Grayson said.

“No matter what it is, I can’t take it,” Eloise insisted.

Grayson’s face turned cold, and he shoved the bag into her arms. “Take it. I’ll go wash the dishes.”

Then he turned on his heel and walked into the kitchen, determined to help out.

Noah trailed after him, leaning against the doorway. “Mr. Pierce, do you even know how to wash dishes?” he

teased.

Grayson gave him a look. “Come on, washing dishes is easy. Of course I know how.”

Noah grinned, “Just don’t go breaking our dishes.”

“Relax, I won’t,” Grayson replied. He dumpertinge oplet dive into the sink.

Eloise spotted it and felt a vein pop on her forehead. But she just let it go. She didn’t even bother to check what was in the bag, just set it aside and went out to the balcony to wash the clothes.

The coffee stains just wouldn’t budge, no matter what she did. So she boiled some water, tossed the clothes in, and added some oxy stain remover to let them soak.

Eloise came into the kitchen to grab the trash and saw the sink was a mountain of bubbles. Her brow furrowed in silent exasperation.

Grayson turned to her and gave a sheepish smile. “Guess I went a little overboard with the dish soap.”

Eloise didn’t say a word. She just grabbed the trash and walked out.

Grayson spent ages in the kitchen, finally getting the dishes done. When he noticed the kitchen floor was a mess, he grabbed a mop and wiped it down too.

By the time he came out, Eloise had already come back from taking out the trash.

Noah was sitting on the floor, messing around with the toys Grayson had bought him.

Grayson shot a look at the bag lying untouched on the floor, his gaze growing somber.

Eloise walked past him and headed straight for her room.

Grayson walked over to the couch and sat down. After a moment’s hesitation, he nudged Noah’s shoulder.

Noah turned to him, looking puzzled.

Grayson asked, “Hey, do you know if Aunt Eloise is keeping any secrets from me?”

Noah was still just a kid, an open book, really. That flash of shock on his face made Grayson even more convinced Eloise was hiding something from him.

“Come on, spill it,” Grayson coaxed.

Noah shook his head. “Can’t do it.”

Grayson tried to tempt him. “How about I get you a limited-edition airplane model?”

“Still can’t,” Noah replied firmly.

“Or maybe a rocket model?” Grayson coaxed.

“Still can’t,” Noah replied.

“How about the whole Transformer set?” Grayson offered.

Noah just shook his head, not budging at all.

Grayson frowned, his face stern. “So what do you want?”

Noah replied, “I’m not gonna rat out Aunt Eloise.”

Grayson gave him a gentle flick on the forehead. “So much for me being nice to you.”

Noah said, “Aunt Eloise matters to me more than anyone.”

Grayson raised an eyebrow. “Even more than your mom and dad?”

Noah didn’t say a word. ‘But Aunt Eloise is my mom, he thought.

After a moment of silence, he finally spoke up. “You gotta step up your game.”

Grayson raised an eyebrow. “Come on, help me out here.”

Noah shook his head. “No, you gotta figure it out yourself. I can’t go behind Aunt Eloise’s back.”

Grayson rolled his eyes at him. ‘This kid is utterly devoted to Eloise, he thought.

Eloise grabbed her clothes and headed to the bathroom.

Grayson could hear the water running in the bathroom, his thoughts wandering.

Twenty minutes later, Eloise walked out, wearing a set of white pajamas dotted with tiny floral prints. Her hair hung loose around her shoulders, her skin tinged with a rosy glow, and her sparkling eyes looked almost

luminous.

She caught Grayson staring at her from the couch and glanced up, locking eyes with his intense, heated gaze.

As if his gaze had scorched her, she quickly looked away and retreated to her room.

She took her time with her skincare routine in her room, stalling for a while before finally opening the door and walking out.

Grayson was still there, sprawled out on the couch like he owned the place.

Noah had already gone off to the bathroom to shower, leaving Grayson alone in the living room.

Eloise said, “It’s time for you to leave.”
