Chapter 97 Don’t Care About Her

Chapter 97 Don’t Care About Her

Beckett didn’t say a word. He just turned and headed toward the Hayes Group building.

“Beckett!” Giavanna hurried after him. She didn’t dare face Grayson alone.

That guy was seriously scary.

He once made eight women cry at a single matchmaking event, and even reported Tessa to the police just because she confessed to him. He was definitely not someone you wanted to mess with.

Giavanna was terrified that Grayson might actually turn her in to the police.

‘Honestly, I can’t figure out Tessa at all. How could she fall for someone so terrifying?’ Giavanna thought to herself.

‘Her Beckett is way better, handsome and gentle, the total package,’ she added in her mind.

**

Eloise pushed Grayson away and turned to walk inside the building.

Grayson called after her, “Eloise, see you tonight.”

Eloise’s legs froze for a second. She almost buckled right there.

People nearby glanced over at her.

She didn’t look back, picking up her pace as she headed inside.

Grayson flashed a quick smile, got in his car, and drove away.

When Eloise got back to her office, she could hear Beckett and Giavanna arguing in Beckett’s office.

“Giavanna, stop coming to me,” Beckett said flatly.

“Beckett, we’re engaged! Of course I should come see you. Uncle Hayes said we should spend more time together and get closer,” Giavanna insisted.

“Giavanna, let’s just drop the whole marriage thing. I don’t have any feelings for you,” Beckett said.

“I know, I know you don’t like me right now, but that doesn’t mean you won’t someday. I’m adorable, I’m gorgeous, and I can totally help you out. You’ll fall for me eventually, just wait and see,” Giavanna said confidently.

Beckett was speechless.

He couldn’t believe how shameless Giavanna was.

“I don’t feel anything for you,” Beckett said.

“I know, you’ve been interested in lots of women before, and now you’re into your secretary. Who knows, maybe you’ll get interested in me too, sooner or later,” Giavanna said.

After a moment of silence, he said, “Glavanna, to everyone else, I’m just a playboy. Don’t expect anything from me. I’m not what you’re looking for, and you’re not my type.”

“But I love your wild side! You’ve never been with someone like me before. Why not give it a shot?” Giavanna

said.

“Giavanna, are you out of your mind?” Beckett shot back.

“Beckett, are you saying I’m just a hopeless romantic? I can’t help it. I really like you. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. The moment I saw you, I fell for you instantly…” Glavanna said, her voice soft and dreamy.

Beckett cut her off, rubbing his throbbing temples. “I’ve got work to do. Just go.”

Giavanna reluctantly left the office, clearly unwilling to leave Beckett’s side.

As she passed Eloise’s desk, Giavanna shot her a glare. But when Eloise looked up, Giavanna bolted, practically sprinting away like she was bring her waratzen

Chapter 97 Don’t Care About Her

Eloise let out a soft laugh.

‘Giavanna is seriously freaked out by Grayson, Eloise thought to herself.

Beckett leaned back in his chair, rubbing his brow in frustration.

He couldn’t shake the image of Grayson kissing Eloise downstairs, and Eloise not pushing him away.

He lit a cigarette, irritation simmering beneath the surface.

Before clocking out, Grayson texted Eloise: he had an emergency meeting and wouldn’t be coming over tonight.

Eloise happily replied with a “Thank goodness!” meme.

Grayson shot back a deadpan emoji.

Eloise couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Felice looked up. “Ms. Caldwell, what’s got you so happy?”

Bertha added, “Seriously, it’s not often we see you crack up like that.”

Eloise quickly pulled herself together and said, “Just saw something funny online.”

That evening, Eloise got a message from Bobby. [Mom and I are coming over tomorrow. We’ve already bought the tickets.]

Eloise barely slept that night. The next morning, she talked to Noah. “How about you stay with your great- grandma for the next couple of days?”

Noah looked confused. “Are you going on a business trip, Mom?”

“No, it’s just… your grandma is sick and coming over for treatment. I might be pretty busy and won’t have much time to look after you,” Eloise explained.

Noah frowned. “Grandma ignores you, so why do you even care about her?” “Just let Bobby take care of her. She only likes him anyway,” Noah said.

Eloise tapped his forehead. “Stop frowning, or you’ll look like a little old man.”

“It’s just grown-up stuff. You’ll understand when you’re older,” Eloise said softly.

Hannah was absolutely thrilled when she found out Noah would be staying at Pierce Manor for a couple of days. She couldn’t wait to share the good news with Leo.

Leo immediately told the staff to get a room ready, then personally went out to pick up some toys any boy would love.

Eloise dropped Noah off at Pierce Manor, then headed straight to one of Ekloland’s top hospitals.

The hospital was overflowing with patients. After asking around, Eloise found out there were no beds. available, not for another week at least.

She got back in her car and tried another hospital.

But it was the same story everywhere. Even the earliest opening wouldn’t be for another three days.

Just then, Finn called her. “Ms. Caldwell, a bed just opened up at Oniginia Hospital. Your mom can be admitted tonight.”

“Thank you,” Eloise replied.

Finn chuckled. “Mr. Pierce set it up. You should thank him, not me.”

With that, Finn hung up.

Eloise hesitated for a moment, then shot Grayson a quick text: [Thanks!]

Grayson replied almost instantly: [I want a steamy kiss.]

Her cheeks flushed as she read his message, but she pretended not to see it.

Grayson gave a slight smile, then looked up at the department manager. “Go on.”

The department manager was still stunned.

‘Did Grayson just smile?’ he thought. ‘No way, I must’ve imagined it.’

He’d never seen Grayson crack a smile before.

The department manager resisted the urge to fidget and kept explaining his point.

Because of a project screw-up, Grayson hadn’t been home all night and was stuck at the office working overtime on a Saturday.

Right now, all he could think about was Eloise.

*****

Bobby texted Eloise their arrival time and asked her to pick them up.

Eloise got to the station ten minutes early, found a spot to park, and went to the exit to wait for them.

When Lorelei saw Eloise, she just turned away, giving her the cold shoulder.

Eloise didn’t greet her either.

Bobby said, “Eloise, help Mom walk. I’ll get the luggage.”

Lorelei snapped, “I don’t need her to help me.”

Eloise shot her a look. “I’ll take the luggage.”

They brought two large suitcases with them.

Eloise took one in each hand, wheeling them behind her as she followed.

Bobby helped Lorelei into the car, then helped put the suitcases in the trunk.

As Eloise started driving, Bobby asked, “Did you get everything sorted with the hospital?”

Eloise kept her eyes on the road. “Yes, everything’s ready. She can be admitted tonight.”

“That’s a relief! The doctor said the sooner Mom gets surgery, the safer she’ll be,” Bobby said.

Eloise focused on driving and didn’t respond.

When Bobby saw it wasn’t a top hospital, his face fell and he looked pretty annoyed.

“Eloise, didn’t I say we needed a top hospital?” Bobby said.

Eloise replied, “Oniginia Hospital is the best private hospital in Ekloland. It’s every bit as good as the top public hospitals. I tried all the top public hospitals, but none of them had any beds available.”

“A private hospital? How much is that going to cost? We’re just an ordinary family. We can’t possibly afford that!” Lorelei protested.

She already felt guilty for making Bobby miss work because of her illness. She didn’t want to put that kind of pressure on him.

Bobby just frowned and stayed quiet.

Eloise knew private hospitals cost a lot, but honestly, there really wasn’t a better choice right now.

“I’ll split the medical bills with Bobby, half and half,” Eloise said.

Bobby said, “Let’s do seventy-thirty. I’ll take seventy, you cover thirty.”

Lorelei cut in, “No, just split it half and half.”

Eloise just gave a faint smile and stayed quiet.
