He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 126

Theresia glanced over and caught Naomi’s bright, heartfelt smile. Somehow, all the tension she’d been carrying started to melt away.

She let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. “Alright.”

It was Saturday, which meant she had a break from GlobalSpan Logistics, but that didn’t mean she was free. Theresia had her own agenda for the day.

Kingsport was hers now, at least on paper. But unless she could pull together three hundred million in the next three days, the deal would slip through her fingers before she could even sign the contract.

She’d already lined up a meeting with Scott, the president of Harrisburg Bank. After breakfast, she slipped into a dress and headed out.

They were supposed to meet at a restaurant. Theresia, never one to be late, showed up thirty minutes early. Even so, by the time their meeting was supposed to start, Scott still hadn’t arrived.

Ten more minutes ticked by. A knot of dread started to form in her stomach.

She pulled out her phone and dialed his number. The call rang and rang before Scott finally picked up.

Trying to keep things light, she said, “Scott, do you have a favorite tea? I can ask them to start brewing it for you.”

Scott’s voice sounded tired, almost apologetic. “Teresa, I’m really sorry. Something urgent came up, so I can’t make it. And about your loan application… it was rejected. We just can’t approve the funds. Maybe you should try another bank.”

Exactly what she’d expected.

She pressed her palm tighter around her phone, her brow creasing. This had Lawrence written all over it. He must have predicted her next move and gotten to Scott first, sabotaging her behind the scenes.

When the display finally hit one, a voice called her name. “Theresia.”

She turned and saw Felton hurrying toward her. Before she knew it, the crowd had pushed her out of the elevator line, and the doors slid closed.

She stayed put as Felton stopped in front of her. The first thing out of his mouth was a sharp rebuke. “Theresia, Mom’s been in the hospital for days. And you’re just showing up now?”

Theresia processed that for a second. Leila was in the hospital? Felton thought she was here for Leila?

Looking at her brother—the one she’d trusted and leaned on since childhood—Theresia felt a mess of emotions swirling inside her. She steadied herself. “You’ve got it wrong. I’m not here to see Leila.”

Her answer only seemed to set Felton off more. “Seriously, Theresia? Do you even have a heart? She may not be your real mother, but she raised you for eighteen years. Doesn’t that mean anything? She’s lying in a hospital bed, and you’re this cold? I swear, you’ll never measure up to Patti.”
