Patti drew a deep breath and looked at Felton, her voice low and serious. “Felton, I need to tell you the truth. Theresia is actually Dad and Naomi’s daughter.”
Ten minutes later, Felton was still standing there, completely stunned. His mind felt empty, like he couldn’t process a single thought.
After a long moment, Patti spoke again, her eyes brimming with tears. “Felton, years ago Naomi seduced Dad and had Theresia. She even switched me and Theresia at birth. Now Theresia is always trying to overshadow me. She ruins my reputation, and Jared keeps threatening to divorce me. I just don’t understand how someone can be this cruel.”
Her voice trembled. “Felton, I honestly don’t know how I’m supposed to move forward. And Mom… she’s suffered so much. I’m really scared that Theresia and Naomi are after The Baker Group. If they take it from us, what will we do?”
Felton’s face grew serious. He pulled Patti into a hug, holding her tight. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, I won’t let anyone hurt you or Mom.”
...
On the other side of town, Theresia had just found Helena.
Helena was finishing up some clinical trial data, shutting down her laptop before she turned to see Theresia looking completely worn out.
“What happened?” Helena asked.
Theresia let out a sigh. “I bumped into Felton downstairs. He told me Leila’s in the hospital. We ended up arguing.”
Helena slipped off her white coat, hanging it up with a grin. “So you ran into Felton. No wonder you look miserable.”
Theresia stayed quiet, lost in her own thoughts.
Helena finished packing up and gently pulled Theresia to her feet. “Come on, let’s grab something to eat. Stop worrying about that family. Not a single one of them is worth your time.”
“To who?”
“Dave from JPMorgan. He’s in Harrisburg. I remember you mentioned he and your dad had dinner back in Solenia.”
Helena’s eyes went wide. “Theresia, you’re brilliant. Let me call my dad.”
JPMorgan was based in Solenia. Helena doubted Lawrence had any sway with them.
A few minutes later, Helena came back with good news. “Dave’s heading to the stables this afternoon. My dad set up a meeting for you. I’ll go with you.”
Time was tight and this was Theresia’s only shot to convince Dave. They finished eating as quickly as they could and rushed out to the stables.
